The last 10 frum Jews remaining from the Tikva community in Odessa, Ukraine, gathered in the kehilla’s historic shul this evening to listen to the megillah, a story that is now as pertinent as ever to them.
The vast majority of the kehilla has already fled the country, with most of the refugees currently being sheltered in Romania near the Black Sea.
Tonight, a group of performers from Eretz Yisroel came to raise and revive the spirits of the refugee Tikva community over Purim.
Prior to the ongoing Russian invasion, the Tikva shul in Odessa shul hosted over a thousand people each year as they came together to listen to the story of the Jews’ triumph over Haman and celebrate the Yom Tov of Purim.
