Many people have plans to go canoeing or rafting in the white-waters of the Delaware River this summer. YWN reminds everyone that although this sport can be tons of fun if done safely and properly, it can also prove to be deadly if not done properly. Tragically two lives were taken this past Friday.
MidHudsonNews reports: The first drowning occurred Friday morning when a Pablo Ferreira, 17, from Mount Vernon, drowned while swimming at Skinners Falls, known for treacherous rapids and deep pools. Others at the scene retrieved him from the river and attempted CPR. Ferreira was pronounced dead at Catskill Regional Medical Center.
Friday afternoon, about 20 miles downstream, another man got in trouble while swimming near Yulan. Ryan Nibar, 27, of Queens, staying with a group at a riverside campground, may have stepped into a deep hole and got caught by the current. His body was recovered Friday evening.
Police say it does not appear foul play were involved in either incident. Both appear to be tragic accidents.
PLEASE USE EXTREME CAUTION – AND FOLLOW ALL RULES AND REGULATIONS TO ENSURE A SAFE TRIP!

R”L drownings have been up in our community too. Just because it is vacation time doesn’t mean one should go on a vacation from safety too.
