Rockland Judge Kevin Russo finds Grafton Thomas incompetent to stand trial due to mental illness and committed him to a mental institution for a year and potentially longer if he’s still found mentally incompetent.
He was accused of stabbing five Jews at a Chanukah party in Rabbi Rottenberg’s Shul in Monsey in 2019.
The most critically injured victim, Josef Neumann, 72, died three months after the attack.

Ridiculous! Mimo nafshach, he should be committed to a mental institution for life if he’s incompetent to stand trial.. either way he should be locked up and not free to do it again ch”v.
How does 1 year help anything?
Imagine … not even NYC
But competent enough to search Hitler material… BTW Malik the hostage taker, demanded Siddiqui Cyanide lady Al-Qaeda be freed…his doctor said he had NO MENTAL ISSUES.
Hopefully he’ll have a convenient “accident” while he’s in there.
Wow such ignorant Jews. He wasn’t committed for a year and then goes free. If in a year he’s found incompetent he’ll be recommitted and if found competent he’ll have a trial for the crime. Hes not getting off.
Anonymous: he’s not freed at the end of the year, he is reevaluated to see if he competent to stand trial at that time or still insane. I don’t think guy will ever be free again.
Don’t worry, I hear being committed is way worse than prison
His Jewish lawyer did it. He was very aware what he was doing he had full of Anti Semitic material in his apartment.
Please tell the counselor that reviewed his case that all shchoirim sound stupid
A person mentally ill is not held accountable. For people whose initial basis for the crime was their mental instability, it is only fair to keep him in a mental institution as long as he recovers, and I am certain that if that does not happen by a year, it will be extended.
You vote DemocRATs that’s the results. Killers are out on the streets. No Bail and no jail. Unless we as religious Jews register to vote in mass we are a party to all the murders.
Every yeshiva who is willing to kick out or not accept kids who don’t follow their ground rules can add that every parent must vote. If we can pull a hundred thousand votes in New York we can get a hold of the high crime rate.
That he is insane now, and thus unable to stand trial, doesn’t mean he was insane when he did the crime. That can only be determined at a trial, which can’t be held for now. The point of committing him for a year is that in a year they’ll look again, and if by then is is able to stand trial they will have one. If not, they’ll send him back to the hospital for another year or longer, and try again later.
