On Sunday, Dr. Anthony Fauci appeared on ABC’s “This Week” to discuss the latest developments regarding COVID-19.
ABC News’s “This Week,” co-anchor Jonathan Karl asked Fauci if he agreed with President Biden who said in a recent interview that his team said vaccine mandates for domestic air travel “isn’t necessary at this time.”
Fauci told Karl, “Well, it depends on what you want to use it for. I mean, vaccine requirements for people coming in from other countries is to prevent newly infected people from getting in to the country.”
“A vaccine requirement for a person getting on the plane is just another level of getting people to have a mechanism that would spur them to get vaccinated. Namely, you can’t get on a plane unless you’re vaccinated, which is just another one of the ways of getting requirements, whatever that might be,” he added.
Fauci emphasized that “anything that could get people more vaccinated would be welcome.”
FAUCI: But with regard to the spread of virus in the country, I mean, I think if you look at wearing a mask and the filtration on planes, things are reasonably safe.
We want to make sure people keep their masks on. I think the idea of taking masks off, in my mind, is really not something we should even be considering … but that’s what we meant by it depends on what the goal of getting people vaccinated before they get on a domestic flight.

Personally I am strongly a pro-vaxxer, but I must object to this.
If he said he thought that mandating a vaccine for flying was safer, I might have agreed, but when he says it’s just a way of forcing people to vaccinate rather than a safety measure, he’s out of line.

Agree with Silentmoshe. Fauci is saying it’s not any riskier to have unvaxxed people on board an aircraft. Just that’s it’s a way to force people to vax. WRONG WRONG WRONG.

The fake vaccine does not prevent people from getting COVID, spreading COVID, bring hospitalized and neither does it save from death. In fact, many people have died after getting the shot.
If everyone would just get vaccinated the virus would disappear in short order. Why is that unreasonable?

If you really believe that the vaccine protects you, then you have nothing to fear from being near someone who has not been vaccinated, especially if he is not coughing or showing signs of being sick. I don’t want to get vaccinated and I should be free to take care of my health the way I want.
To Basmelech1: I believe that vaccines work at a rate – about 90% – found in clinical trials. They are not foolproof, but they are way better than nothing. Anyone sitting next to me on a plane is substantially more likely to infect me if he/she has not been vaccinated. Your failure to take care of your health is not your problem alone – your failure is a threat to everyone around you. As I said, and as clinical trials have found, vaccines are not foolproof.

If the vaccine has a 90% efficacy rate, why does everyone I know who has been vaccinated getting Covid-19 again? Calling them “break-through” cases, makes it sound more rare. We all know this vaccine is a lot less effective than they hoped for. The answer they give is “get a booster” that is crazy! If it didn’t work the first time, why repeat the same lousy vaccine again? If you want to believe you are protected by your vaccine, so be it. Put on 3 masks and sit quietly on the plane. It doesn’t mean the person sitting next to you has to be injected with some useless poison to satisfy your fantasies.

There is nothing wrong with using measures to nudge people to vaccinate. This might be better than strict mandates. Is air travel a good place to do that? On one hand – no, because not everyone flies. On the other hand – this is a very soft method, this will presumably mostly affect people going to vacations (business people are more likely to be vaxxed), so it is a very gentle nudge. Also, this will catch the most mobile of anti-vaxxers. So, sadly, maybe Fauci can convince more people than R Kanevski. I wish people would just listen to their Rabbis here. Nobody explained here why R Kanevski is not good enough for them, they would rather argue about Fauci

Because that’s simply not true. These shots are not even “vaccines”. They are interventions that supposedly prevent hospitalization but they do not claim to prevent infection nor stop transmission.

To Chacham45: The answer to your question (why does everyone I know …) is, sampling error. The medical science is clear that boosters help. If you do not want a vaccine, you should consider whether you are being selfish and ignorant, not to mention a threat to your family and friends.

Here we have people who have no medical education, no college education, in some cases not even a high school diploma, but nonetheless are experts in vaccine effectiveness, they are even more knowledgeable than career epidemiologists, who have been studying for decades the ways to fight and control epidemics such as the coronavirus. They all know that wearing masks is pure insanity. Vaccine? its dangerous and ineffective! Experts say wear masks? Nah! not for us we know better, than to follow them like sheep. Thank you for displaying your lack of medical knowledge. These vaccines, like all others does lower the chance of getting infected and transmitting the virus. While this vaccine works differently in its mechanism, the effect is the same, training your body’s immune system to recognize a virus so it can produce antibodies when you get sick. And while I agree that people don’t have the right to force people to vaccinate, decency would recommend that you remove yourself from society if you opt out of the vaccine so as not to harm others.

Right on point. Education, besides imparting knowledge and critical thinking skills, helps show people how little they actually know and how much is out there. I find that the people who lack it are the first to claim to know everything about everything. It’s quite hilarious.
