Americans didn’t trust President Obama going into the negotiations with Iran, according to the latest PEW Research poll, conducted prior the announced deal reached between the P5+1 with Iran, and published Tuesday.
By a 56% to 34% margin, US voters disapprove President Obama’s handling of foreign policy. The public also disapproves of his handling of the Iranian nuclear issue by a 53-37 margin (Editor note: results are from Oct. 28-Nov. 6, 2013 – prior Geneva deal), and his handling of the Syrian crisis by a 27 point margin (57-30).
A majority of Americans (51%) say that Obama is not tough enough in his approach to foreign policy and national security issues; 37% say his approach is about right while 5% say he is too tough.
Iran’s nuclear program continues to be one of the top global threats to the United States in the public’s view. Nearly seven-in-ten Americans (68%) say that Iran’s nuclear program is a major threat to the well-being of the United States.
Amid Israel’s criticism of the Geneva deal, a whopping majority of 77% agree that “in deciding on its foreign policies, the U.S. should take into account the views of its major allies.”
