All New Jersey-bound lower level lanes of the George Washington Bridge will be closed for paving during overnight hours on weekends beginning Friday, June 27, until the scheduled project completion in the fall.
The paving project is part of the Port Authority’s $1.3 billion, 10-year capital investment in the bridge to keep it safe and in a state of good repair. The bridge deck was last paved in 1997.
The lane closings will occur from 10 p.m. Fridays through 10 a.m. Saturdays, and from 10 p.m. Saturdays through 10 a.m. Sundays, weather permitting.
Considerable delays may occur. Traffic will be diverted to the span’s upper level and to the Lincoln Tunnel.
