Democrats Propose Bill to Raise Minimum Wage to $15 by 2025

House and Senate Democrats introduce legislation to increase the federal minimum wage to $15 by 2025, according to an emailed statement.

After 2025, the bill would require the federal minimum wage be indexed to inflation. The measure would also phase out the wages below the minimum for tipped workers, youth workers and workers with disabilities.

Sponsors of the bill include House Education and Labor Committee Chair Bobby Scott and Bernie Sanders, incoming Senate Budget Committee chair.

  1. This is good news to companies producing robots that can replace inefficient workers, and will help stimulate the economies in developing countries that can produce goods cheaper than than the US. It is bad news for many American workers who will go from earning a real wage to being on welfare, and will close down inefficient businesses that rely on exploiting cheap labor. And by increasing unemployment, it will probably increase the chance of the Republicans taking control of the Congress in next year’s elections (though in all fairness, except for Trump kicking the ball into his own goal, the Republicans would be in control of Congress already).
