Regarding the incident first reported by YWN on Friday morning, an autopsy which was performed on Saturday morning, has revealed that the body of Anthony Skyers which was found in a wooded area of Lakewood on Friday morning, died as the result of two gun shot wounds.
A source tells YWN that the 18-year-old Toms-River resident had one gunshot wound to the head, and one to his neck – and that neither a bullet casing or weapon were recovered at the scene.
Detectives are continuing their investigation into the shooting death which was uncovered by a person taking a shortcut through the woods – separating the High Point apartments and the Wyndham Place II condominiums off Massachusetts Avenue.
On Friday, investigators began their effort to piece together the chain of events that led to the shooting. They established a command post along Bristol Court in Wyndham Place, roped off a large portion of the 200-yard wooded swath separating the two developments and began photographing and videotaping the area around the body.
According the the Asbury Park Press, the only element of the time line that had been established is that Skyers had been in police custody less than 24 hours before his death. He was cited by Lakewood police for underage drinking between 6 and 7 p.m. on Thursday night, and subsequently released.
