While Prime Minister Ehud Olmert told an AIPAC audience and President George W. Bush that he is not opposed to talks with the Syrians, the American position is quite a different one, with lawmakers fearing talks would harm both Israel and the United States. In congress, efforts towards lobbying against such a move are already underway.
Texas Congressman Louie Gohmert is working to gain support to send a clear message to the White House, that negotiating with Syria is a non-starter. The congressman questioned if Israel ever gave away a piece of land that did not then serve as a base for future attacks? The answer is no!
The definition of insanity explained the congressman is when one does the same thing over and over again and expects different results. The Golan Heights he explained is a wonderfully strategic position to place artillery to shoot down on innocent civilians.
Dr. Dave Weldon (R-FL), who heads the pro-Israel lobby in Congress, stated “if I were prime minister, I would set preconditions as the Syrians did in order to establish they are serious. This includes a cessation of support for terror organizations, water guarantees for Golan water sources, and cooperation with the United States. If the Syrians were serious, the talks would already be taking place.”
Secretary of State Dr. Condoleezza Rice in her address to the AIPAC forum also hinted that talks with the Syrians do not enjoy her backing at present. She believes the focus should remain on the PA track since those talks are already in the advanced stages.

The stupidity of the Israeli Leadership Vis-à-vis wanting to give up the critically strategic Golan Heights is absolutely incredible. I have but one logical explanation; that by giving away all of these territories Israel will become so minute that no missiles fired at it would hit its Israeli target as it would overshoot in any direction. This is my only laughable explanation for the Israeli stupidity.
