Elizabeth is not the queen of Australia guys. She’s the queen of England. Something or other about Commonwealth
Queen of England and the Commonwealth
Lib. You are simply wrong. A quick Google search proves it.
The present monarch is Elizabeth II, styled Queen of Australia.
Australian constitutional law provides that the monarch of the United Kingdom is also the monarch in Australia.
Australia is thus one of the Commonwealth realms, sixteen independent countries that share the same person as monarch and head of state.
@Lib:
A quick Google search should set you straight…
Sorry, but you’re not right. She is officially Queen of Australia. Google Queen of Australia and you’ll see. She is of course Queen of England and she has other titles as well.
She is the queen of Australia. Australia is part of the Commonwealth, and she is the monarch.
The Queen of Golders Green? The Queen’s full title in the United Kingdom is Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of G-d, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and of her other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith.
The Commonwealth of Nations, generally known simply as the Commonwealth, is a political association of 54 member states, nearly all former territories of the British Empire.
The British Empire. When Queen Victoria came to the throne in 1837, Britain already governed Canada, large areas of India, Australia, and New Zealand, and small parts of South America and Africa. Together, these countries formed the British Empire.
So there you have it. Her Majesty is the Queen of Golders Green (part of Great Britain) as well as Australia!
If NY state can have a king, Australia can have a queen.
I find it really sad that all the comments are about the Queen! What about this poor old Yid who grew up without a mother and has been saying kaddish for her for probably over 90 years? May he have arichas yomim
To all of the above: this article was about a man who is 100 years old, davening on his mother’s 100th yahrtzeit, a woman whom he therefore does not remember.
Reb Aurbach should be zoche to live to 120. So sad that he lost his mother at such a young age. He is truly an inspiration.
Australia has been an independent country since September 1, 1939. It just happens to share its queen with over a dozen other countries, which saves on the expenses.
Also, she’s not queen of England, she’s queen of the United Kingdom. England hasn’t been a separate kingdom since 1707.
Honestly, who cares about the Queen!?
It’s so incredible that on such an emotional article, that this is what people are discussing!
Queen Esther is the queen of Australia.
She is not the focus of the article. It about the 100 year old man.
I retract my prior comment, and apologize for starting the comments off on such a bane discussion
