NJ Senator Lautenberg Wins NJ Democratic Senate Primary

02.jpg10:20PM EST: Incumbent Frank Lautenberg is the winner in New Jersey’s Democratic U.S. Senate primary, the Star Ledger is reporting. Lautenberg easily fought off his opponent from South Jersey Congressman Rob Andrews on Tuesday.

At 84-years-old, Frank Lautenberg is the third-oldest member of the U.S. Senate, and at the end of this term, he will be more than 90 years-old.

50-year-old Rob Andrews spent much of the campaign running ads, and delivering speeches about how old Frank Lautenberg would be after he completes his fifth term.

Lautenberg’s opponent this November was has yet to be determined, as votes from the Republican primary are still being tallied. Former congressman Dick Zimmer holds a fairly comfortable leader over state Sen. Joe Pennacchio (R-Morris) and Rampao College professor Murray Sabrin.

  1. Seems like Lausenberg is well on his way to a victory in the general election as the GOP nominee, Dick The Lib Zimmer, is another dud.

  2. What a hypocrite. He got his seat in the first place by campaigning against Millicent Fenwick on the grounds that at 72 she was too old. He should have been legally estopped from running for the Senate after his 72nd birthday.
