ywn logo2.jpg*The Buildings Department said that it appears a worker who fell to his death from a scaffold in Brooklyn yesterday was not wearing a safety harness. Mosharrs Hossain fell four stories while cleaning the facade of a building on St. Marks Avenue in Crown Heights. The department stopped work at the site and says violations will be issued.

*The NYPD is looking for the driver of a car that plowed into an unidentified 88-year-old man on Montaque Street in Brooklyn – and then swerved for about a block to shake him off. Police said the pedestrian is in critical but stable condition at a Brooklyn hospital, where he was taken after the Monday (3:30PM) hit-and-run.

*The World Trade Center’s Freedom Tower has its first corporate tenant: A Beijing real estate company. The site’s owner says Beijing Vantone Real Estate Company agreed to preliminary terms to open a Chinese business center on five floors of the more than 1,000-foot tower.

*The man, who shot and wounded Middletown City Police Officer Christopher Dolan, was sentenced in Orange County Court Monday to 40 years in state prison. Raymond Zayas, 34, was found guilty in a second trial – the first ended in a mistrial – to assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

*Zip Aviation, a charter helicopter company that flies into the West 30th Street Heliport in Manhattan, will begin service to Stewart Airport. While the start up is targeted for July, the frequencies of the daily flights and the ticket prices have not yet been firmed up.

*The Village of Monticello board unanimously approved the appointment of Jacob Billig as their new attorney Monday evening. He will replace William Frank and Karen Alt of the Greenwald Law Firm. Frank and Alt stepped down over a dispute over their workload and pay. Billig has specialized in representing development interests in Sullivan County, but will not handle planning board issues. According to Village Manager John Barbarite, Robert Gaiman will act as counsel to the planning board and zoning board.

*There’s a primary election being held in New Jersey today, with polls open from 6:00AM until 8:00PM Tuesday, with voters choosing candidates for congressional and local elections. Presidential primaries were held in February. It was decided last year to separate the presidential primary from the other contests. Experts predict that With no presidential primary, the turnout will likely be low.

*Median barriers will soon separate the north and south sides of Route 287 in Franklin Lakes and Mahwah as part of a statewide initiative to prevent crossover accidents, according to a report in The Record of Bergen County. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of June.

*An estimated 1,868 students are expected to receive diplomas this morning at Princeton University’s 261st Commencement ceremony on the lawn in front of Nassau Hall.

*TRI-STATE WEATHER: Today will be another beauty – bright, sunny skies with highs in the lower 80s. Some clouds roll in late this afternoon, and evening showers will have a cooling effect, according to the National Weather Service.
