Buying a New Bed? Here’s How to Compare Mattress Brands

It doesn’t seem like a big deal; picking out a new mattress. It isn’t something the average person would put much thought into. Once you’ve got the right size and the right price, you’re pretty much done, right? Wrong! This is a decision that’ll affect you for years to come and as a result, you’ve got to get it right the first time.

Your physical and mental health is at stake here. The size might be perfect for you and the price could fall within your range but if the quality of the mattress isn’t good enough, you’ll regret it sooner or later.

Sleep loss, joint and muscle pain, insomnia; these are some of the consequences of poor mattress matchmaking. Do you need a durable and comfortable place to binge-watch your subconscious from? Is your current bed depriving of the peace and comfort you so rightfully deserve? If your answer is a resounding yes, you’re at the right address!

Age is More Than Just a Number

If you’ve had your mattress for ten years, a change is probably long overdue. Be that as it may, it’s important to note that not all mattresses are the same. It’s like with cars; BMW is known for its endurance. Look at mattress comparisons data to find out what’s the BMW of the mattress world so you can make an informed decision.

Take your sleeping habits into consideration, if you’re a heavy-duty sleeper, you’ll need a heavy-duty bed. You’ve been and will be asleep for a huge chunk of your life so it’s important to draw on your current or previous mattress experiences, as this will be a yardstick for what is to come.

Designer Sleep

There are different strokes for different folks, even when it comes to mattresses. A fully grown adult cannot sleep on a child’s bed. Maybe you’re heavier than the average person, maybe you’re old or perhaps you have a medical condition, you’ll have to get a mattress that is specific to your needs.

Don’t be afraid to talk to your retailer about your needs, as it’s their job to give clarity on their products.

Once you’ve got your needs figured out, you’ll want to consider your preferences. Perhaps environmental friendliness is what you’re looking for in a mattress; you’ll want to pick something made from natural and organic materials.

Maybe you want to get some bounce out of your bed, as not everyone likes to be ‘hugged’ by their mattress. Think about what you liked and what you didn’t like about the last one.

If a mattress meets all the requirements but it doesn’t have something that you like, keep looking. The mattress industry is as big as sleep itself and there’s no need to compromise, this is a long-term investment after all.

How much do you weigh? What’s your usual sleeping position? These are questions you’ll have to ask yourself if you want to make a good mattress comparison. The way you sleep determines what type of mattress you should have, so make sure you know which bed is ideal for you.

Some mattress companies will have this info in their product description and some will require you to ask or look it up yourself.

Don’t just compare mattress companies; compare mattresses among the different companies. Each brand has several mattresses in their product line and it would do you well to find out which company has the best offer.

It’s like doing your ordinary shopping; you don’t just buy the first brand you come across, unless of course you’ve used it before and enjoyed it. The art of shopping dictates that you look at the same product from different companies, allowing you to make a more conscious, informed decision that you won’t regret later.

The Cash Conundrum

Competition in the mattress industry means that a variety of budgets are catered to. Not all that glitters is gold in this industry, so don’t be fooled by expensive mattresses. Some brands are unreasonably overpriced, so be careful of those hefty price tags, it’s just a way of baiting you.

On the other hand, don’t spend too little on your mattress, unless you’re prepared to replace it with another one really soon.

If this hasn’t been a wake-up call, I don’t know what will be. Don’t be lazy to do your homework, ask questions and don’t rush into anything; that’s one of the best ways to find the mattress of your dreams- no pun intended!
