Monsey Trails Price Hike Not As High As Planned

monsey bus1.jpgAs YWN had reported last week, Monsey Trails was planning on raising their prices on their Monsey/New York bus route this coming Sunday. But due to dozens of phone calls from complaining customers, the price-hike won’t be as high as originally planned.

According to the Journal News, Monsey Trails had decided to raise the cost of its 40-trip booklet from $240 to $270 – instead of the planned $300, representing a 25 percent hike; to cover the high prices on diesel fuel.

During the past couple of weeks, close to 50 riders contacted the company to complain that the fare increase was too steep, Monsey Trails general manager J.J. Lunger told the Journal News

“We did listen to them and that’s why we’re meeting them halfway,” Lunger said.

  1. Monsey Trails is right for raising the prices. There is no need to complain.

The expenses are so much like gas & the driver being paid, then there are so many other expenses like, insurance (which I know costs a fortune for a bus), maintenance, office work, and many more…

Come on, when you fill up your tank at the gas station and you pay much more you also complain…???

When you bought a challah for shabbos before pesach, it costed $4. After pesach it costed $5. This is a 25% increase!!!

GEVALD IN GESHRIGEN!!! Why are there there no blogs & posters about this? Cause the owner is not a heimesher yungerman???

Please people! Stop this nonsense! Fargin for another Jew to at least cover his expenses!!!

I travel alot on these buses, I know the company pretty well. The people are nice guys there, and yes JJ also…

What you said about competition, No one wants to open a bus business these days, You have to be sick to even think about it. The costs are outrages! Come on do your research!

Now, finally for the bus company (I hope they are reading this as well…) Keep up your good service, make sure that the buses are well maintained, clean, and in good service. B”h, lately it has been very good & pleasant to drive on (most) of the buses…

A loyal traveler for many years!

  2. Something smells funny here…

They came down 50% on their increase due to 50 phone calls…. and they carry how many passengers a day?

Either they’re ripping people off in the first place, or that was their intention just now with the price hike.

Or…. they’re anticipating greater fuel increases in the future and they figured “let’s assess for it now already” so that they would not have to create another hike in a month from now, to cover those ever rising fuel costs.

  3. The issue is not with a price increase. What people are fuming about is the amount!! Rockland Coaches raised from $240 to $250. This is normal. What Monsey Trails is doing is robbery, even at $270!

A bus driver gets paid approx. $85 a trip. Everyone’s calculation’s still does not add up to $675. In addition, most of the buses are subsidexed by the county. Insurance rates are only steep because the drivers drive like animals. How often do you need to fix a bus? Even if it is every other week, they are still making a pretty penny.

To summarize, every knows that they need to raise prices, but be a MENTCH!

  4. theyenta–the reason why people did not complain is because they know they are being ripped off and no matter what they say will not help! We all knew that Monsey Trails raised the prices very steep so when they drop it 30 dollars, they can say we met you half way! The mentchlich thing to do is to match it with Rockland Buses that raised it only to $250!

But what can we do, we are in Golus and expect people, even Jews to take advantage of us.

  5. You people are so not farginners!

    You talk nonsense!

Do you know all their expenses? Have you ever dealt with a bus company? Do you think that the drivers $85 or whatever, thats the only costs?

I’m sure you people are bocurim in a yeshiva & have no clue about real life!

    Grow Up!
