Socialist Mayor Bill DeBlasio has a new idea how to curb the out-of-control-gun violence plaguing NYC and parts of Brooklyn: Cooking classes and a swimming pool.
Yes, you read correctly.
The new “recreational center” will be located at Nostrand Avenue in Flatbush, and community engagement will begin in the Fall.
NYS Assembly Member Rodneyse Bichotte announced that the center will be named Shirley Chisholm after the first black woman elected to the United States Congress.
It will feature a state of the art indoor pool, indoor two-lane track, and a kitchen for cooking classes, according to Bichotte.
Apparently, the Mayor believes that a cooking class will be the solution, and not to reverse his decision and put the NYPD Plainclothes “anti-crime” Officers back on the streets. DeBlasio got rid of the unit during the George Floyd protest that rocked NYC last month.
In 15 of the most violent precincts in the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens this year, there have been 870 gun arrests and 492 of those arrests were done by anti-crime units. So the units were responsible for about 50 percent of gun arrests.
A swimming pool will now make those gun arrests.

So when some of our friendly gunmen get fed up with a nice white lady sweetly explaining how to make spinach fettuccine to serve for a snack on Sunday afternoon, and decide to head back to the streets for a little shoot up between friends for Sunday tea, will Mayor De Mented retaliate with “machine guns, artillery guns and tanks.” He has something to learn from the IDF. You fight fire with fire not cooking lessons.

It is no mitzvah to make fun of the mentally ill, so please leave Bill alone. When was the last time he had a full mental health work up? Things are not getting any better and before long he will need to be considered for Involuntary Commitment. New York State law provides certain means to protect the community from individuals, where outreach, therapy, medication and other less restrictive attempts to help have been unsuccessful. Pursuant to New York State Mental Hygiene Law section 9.27, an alleged mentally ill person may be involuntarily committed to a mental health facility if the person’s judgment is too impaired for him or her to understand the need for such care and treatment. Don’t worry friends, we will soon be able to live safely again in New York with gunmen locked up not treated to cookery lessons.

I dont think the mayor is stupid or naive. I think he is plain evil. His plan is to systematically destroy the city so it will become impossible for law abiding citizens to live in. He is doing it in a suit and tie and with a eloquent way of speaking but make no mistake about it he is a sick criminal

It’s actually a good idea. But it won’t help alone.
You can take issue with the strategy, but it is not something new, rather it goes back a long time. Organizations like the YMCA (and its counterpart, YMHA) , as well as PAL (Police Athletic League) were made to keep young people out of trouble, to keep them busy, giving them options to keep them away from dangerous streets.
The Mayor did not invent this idea.

The pool we can definitely use. Will it have separate hours to accommodate the religious needs of the Muslims and Orthodox Jews? The separate beach hours that was arranged by Councilman Chaim Deutsch at Manhattan Beach in Brooklyn in recent years was greatly appreciated by those of us that stay in the City during the summer.
De Blasio is neither socialist nor communist. Please get some secular education.
The entire increase in homicides this year is from Brooklyn and North Manhattan. The rest of the city has them either at about the same level or declining. The right thing to do would be to flood the high crime areas with cops. Brooklyn lives matter.
You can always tell the true colors of a term-limited politician when he starts to near the end. DiBlasio’s political career is probably over once his term of mayor is over next year. He got laughed out of the room when he tried to run for President and he is intensely disliked all over New York State. He’ll never be governor or a senator, so he’ll just go into the private sector.
But in the meantime he’s showing us who he is – a hard left, out of touch liberal who will bend over backwards to avoid dealing with crime.

I think this news article is quite out of context.
Yes there’s outrage for cutting on the police force and so on, but what has this new community center do with this? I actually like the idea of opening many more recreational centers keep these kids busy with some healthy outlets.
Bashing the mayor for anything he does is actually the idea how the media and the liberals spin every positive move that Trump does into a negative.

Yes, YMCA and a few other things were intended to give young people other things to enjoy to minimize crime. However, that was in times when crime was not tolerated, and led to severe negative consequences. But this evil rosho has flipped law and order on its head, and has treated crime with reward. That will be more enticing for all who have a desire to commit crime, and is probably more attractive than a cooking class.

You can’t and shouldn’t flood those high crime areas with cops. They have been stripped of their authority, and are sitting ducks for getting fired just because they arrested a murderer, plus lawsuits, etc. It is totally inane to expect police to do their jobs when you take away their tools, and punish them for doing their jobs. I wish these evil politicians a taste of being a crime victim, and to watch the perps end up better off than them.

These rec centers may be good. But the ones that will patronize these places are not the ones committing the violence, crime, and murder. The latter will not forgo their shooting practice for a lesson on how to make lasagna. As for the mayor, I firmly believe that there is nothing he does or says that is consistent with morality. He calculates his actions to advance the agenda of supporting crime. May he be its next victim.
The city is burning. It is riddled with unprecedented crime and violence due to Debozo’s policies. Such a center is again feeding into the “get everything for free atmosphere ” that is causing people to continously act the way they do, being the lazy bums they are having fun “protesing”, dancing in the streets, rioting, looting and murdering. This center is again feeding the narrative that the city owes everything to the people, particularly blacks, and so the sense of entitlement and irresponsibility keeps on growing. The city is producing literally, citizens spoiled to the core who will trash the city eventually.
