*It was a frightening end to a fun Memorial Day at an amusement park on Long Island. A little girl and her father ended up upside down on a roller coaster simulator at the Fun Zone. The fun turned fearful and frantic in a hurry at the small indoor amusement park on Broad Hollow Road. The little girl was taken to an area hospital for precautionary reasons after hanging upside down for 20 minutes.

*A 9-year-old Spring Valley boy was recovering Tuesday after being mauled by his family’s pit bull, the Journal News reported. The dog bit the boy once on the head, leaving a large cut on his forehead.
*Orange Mayor Mims Hackett pleaded guilty this morning today in Newark federal court to attempted extortion. Hackett, a 66-year-old former state Assemblyman, admitted taking a $5,000 bribe from an undercover FBI agent. He was among 11 public officials caught last year in a statewide federal sting probing municipal insurance contracts.
*Brick Township officials are reviewing a petition to force a vote on a proposal to borrow $9.99 million for the purchase and redevelopment of the Ocean Ice Palace as a community and athletic center, according to a report in the Asbury Park Press.
*Authorities say a Long Island man posing as a police officer pulled over a taxi, ordered its passenger into his car and then drove her around for three hours. Christopher Mackrodt is charged with kidnapping, criminal impersonation and DWI following his arrest early Tuesday.

*EDGEWATER, Md. — Anne Arundel County fire officials say two people were found inside an Edgewater home with lethal levels of carbon monoxide after a neighbor concerned about a generator running inside their garage called 911. It happened around 1:30 a.m. Monday in the 1600 block of Riverdale Drive. They say carbon monoxide levels were
three times the permissible level. The 46-year-old woman and 50-year-old man were taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center for evaluation and are expected to recover.
*BALTIMORE, Md. — A new report shows port security across the country may be lacking, in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. According to a watchdog agency a homeland security program to strengthen port security has gaps that terrorists could exploit, to smuggle weapons of mass destruction into cargo containers. At the Baltimore Port one federal security check is already in the works.
GERMANTOWN, Md. — Montgomery County Police say two children playing in a wooded area in Germantown found the body of a local woman who was reported missing about two weeks ago. Police say the body was found shortly before 7 p.m. Monday. The woman’s name has not been released, but police say she was reported missing May 12.
*BALTIMORE, Md. — Baltimore police say a man wearing a suit and tie robbed a downtown bank. It happened around 10:15 a.m. Sunday at the 1st Mariner Bank branch in the 300 block of North Charles Street. The bank is typically open from 10 a.m to 1 p.m. on Sundays. Police say the man, who was also wearing a black hat, passed a note to a teller
and implied he had a weapon, then fled with an undetermined amount of money.
*BALTIMORE, Md. — Be prepared for more Code Orange Air Quality days this summer. Environmental officials say new federal regulations go into effect today. The Clean Air outreach coordinator for the Baltimore Metropolitan Council, Russ Ulrich, says the new rules slightly reduce the allowable ozone content in the air before a declaration of Code Orange, indicating the air is unhealthy for some sensitive people. Ulrich says local areas that too often exceed the limits could lose federal transportation improvement funding.
*BALTIMORE, Md. — Baltimore City Police say that a 16-year-old girl was shot in a drive by shooting in the 2200-block of Annapolis Rd in the Southern section of the city. The girl was was shot in the face and arm and was taken to Shock Trauma in serious condition.
*ARLINGTON, Va. — The northbound lanes of the George Washington Parkway near Arlington will remain closed while the United States Park Police, along with local fire and emergency teams, wrap up the investigation of a missing motorcyclist. The body of the unidentified man was found in the woods near the bank of the Potomac River just after 6 a.m. after an exhaustive search of the area. Around 6:15 p.m. Monday, U.S. Park Police received a call that a motorcycle traveling northbound on the George Washington parkway went off the road and over a cliff, south of the first overlook. The motorcycle, described as a blue sports bike, was discovered late Monday night. The man has been identified as a member of the military assigned to a local military base.
*WASHINGTON, Dc — Hundreds of cab drivers in the District have been issued tickets for not having a meter in their taxi cab. The tickets carry a $1,000 fine which is being waived for the first month of the new system. Beginning June 1st, drivers who are issued tickets will be expected to pay the fine.
