President Trump is commuting the prison sentence of Republican political operative Roger Stone via an executive grant of clemency, the White House said in a statement. Mr. Trump extended reprieve to his longtime informal adviser and ally days before he was expected to report to prison.

The statement from the White House called Stone a “victim of the Russia Hoax” and said there was “never any collusion between the Trump Campaign, or the Trump Administration, with Russia.” Stone was convicted in November of lying to Congress about his efforts to collaborate with WikiLeaks during the 2016 campaign and threatening a witness to cover up his actions.

“As it became clear that these witch hunts would never bear fruit, the Special Counsel’s Office resorted to process-based charges leveled at high-profile people in an attempt to manufacture the false impression of criminality lurking below the surface,” the statement said.

  1. It is a shame and disgrace that America has political prisoners in 21st century. Deep State turned America into banana republic. President should’ve pardoned him and others long time ago.

  2. Good. The only reason the democrats went after him is because he helped Trump win. Any propaganda that helped Obama is fair by democrats.

  3. It’s true that this crime would never have happened, and would certainly never have been prosecuted, if not for the Russia hoax. As we’re now seeing, the highest echelons of the FBI and CIA lied under oath and no charges are being brought against them. So this is only fair.

Manafort is a more difficult question: he committed his crimes all right, but the only reason he was prosecuted was because he was close to Trump. The entire purpose of his prosecution was to isolate Trump by deterring people from associating with him. If not for that he would have been left alone. That is fundamentally unjust, and those who made that decision (primarily Robert Muller) deserve a sentence at least twice as long as his. So should Trump pardon him or commute his sentence? I don’t know, but I think so.

Michael Cohen is yet another story, because he turned on Trump, so Trump doesn’t owe him any favors. But midas chassidus would be to give him clemency too, because he would never have been prosecuted if not for his association with him.

  4. Meanwhile everyone who pretends outrage should remember that 0bama pardoned terrorists and traitors, and they said nothing then.

  5. Yes, the US is becoming a banana republic, but I think it’s because of the top banana, or the top orange, whatever kind of fruit Trump is.

  6. It looks like Marxists on this forum got triggered by Trump restoration of justice and defending innocent people..
