Con Ed Prepares For Summer Energy Needs

Con Edison is taking action to ensure customers in NYC do not have to live through any blackouts this summer. The utility company tells NY1 that it is spending $1.7 billion in preparation for the season, and is trying to complete work by June 1.

Con Ed says it wants to avoid having to disable equipment to make repairs while customers are in the midst of the season when electricity is used the most.

Much of the work is being done in Upper Manhattan and Yonkers, where old equipment and the network of cables and wires cannot handle the peak demand.
