Video & Photos: Elected Officials Call For Calm in Crown Heights, as NYPD Makes 2 Arrests

Picture 014.jpg[VIDEO & PHOTO LINKS IN EXTENDED ARTICLE] As YWN had reported, a large press conference took place in Crown Heights on Thursday morning – just as the NYPD was arresting two teens in connection with the attack of 16-year-old Alon Sherman last week.

The press conference was held at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum on Eastern Parkway, and was attended by close to 20 elected officials – who are part of the Black-Jewish Coalition.

The Black-Jewish Coalition, consisting of over 40 elected officials, was created about six months ago in reaction to an increase in racial and anti-Semitic incidents around the city.

Police say 17-year-old Namor Clarke and another 14-year-old boy were charged with robbery. Alon Sherman, 16, was beaten and robbed while riding his bicycle through Crown Heights Friday morning.

As of Thursday, the NYPD had not classified it as a hate crime.
