Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar went beyond calls to defund the police following the death of George Floyd, instead calling for dismantling the Minneapolis Police Department because it is “rotten to the root.”
“We need to completely dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department. Because here’s the thing, there’s a cancer,” she said, continuing that amputation is needed so it doesn’t spread.
“The Minneapolis Police Department is rotten to the root, and so when we dismantle it, we get rid of that cancer, and we allow for something beautiful to rise, and that reimagining allows us to figure out what public safety looks like for us,” Omar, a first-term congresswoman, said.

I am a registered Democrat and an unregistered liberal.
Any talk of “closing down the police department” is nonsense. I don’t know exactly how long we have had police, but it goes back hundreds of years, and I cannot imagine not having a police force.
Anyone who talks about closing down a police department must make it clear what he/she means. If he/she means we don’t need police in any form, say so. If he/she means we need to radically reform the police force, and replace all current cops, say so. But any proposal to get rid of all police for all time needs some ‘splainin’.
She sounds like an incredibly immature overwhelmed teenager, crying like a baby. How in the world she is a US Rep beats me.
