Senator Ted Cruz is calling on the Justice Department to investigate NYC Mayor Deblasio after the NYPD shut down a Hasidic Yeshiva operating in defiance of the executive order.
“The next time NYC’s mayor sends out a gleeful tweet about sending cops after Jews, the DOJ should investigate to make sure he’s not violating constitutionally guaranteed religious liberties,” Cruz wrote in a Tuesday morning tweet.
“Actually, they should have done it after the last one,” he added.
As YWN reported, the NYPD on Monday shut down an Orthodox Jewish school in Brooklyn that was operating illegally during the pandemic.
Law enforcement officials told NBC New York that police officers found more than 100 children inside the school on Madison Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant when they arrived there Monday morning.

In a tweet Monday evening, de Blasio said the Yeshiva was “conducting classes with as many as 70 children.”
“I can’t stress how dangerous this is for our young people,” he wrote. “We’re issuing a Cease and Desist Order and will make sure we keep our communities and our kids safe.”

When you read many of the comment’s of Cruz’s Twitter page, it’s many of the liberal Jews using the nastiest and most derogatory terms for the senator. What I beg to argue is (and especially for GadolHadora) if Cruz’s outcry makes him a “Nazi” (as some liberal Jews are calling him) or Trump opening the Jerusalem Embassy or releasing Rubashkin a “Nazi”, I’d be curious to learn from a Auschwitz survivor what their experience with Nazis were like. Hashem Y’Rachem. Thank you Senator for doing the right thing!

Valid point. I would agree that yeshivos need to be in compliance with health regs, and should otherwise be forced to close. I am not upset at what NYPD did. They had received calls, and they fulfilled their responsibility. The culprit in all this is the mayor. He has been displaying severe animosity toward the frum community, and can’t even apologize under pressure without throwing in additional barbs. It is abundantly clear that he is biased against the Jews of NY, and undeserving of holding office as a public servant.
Where we, as a community are derelict, is in our indirect support of this regime, with all its evils. We have askanim willing to take to airwaves and media to deny about the mayor’s antisemitism. These same schvitzers also push for these resho’im when they are up for re-election, all for a few dollars. We must stand up and protest. These askanim do not represent me. I never voted for them. Their power and control of our major organizations is criminal.

Not sure I would call that “Defends Hasidic Yeshiva” as the headline says, but more of an attack on De Blasio’s prejudices.
He wasn’t agreeing with what was done.
He’s really gleeful about this, because actions like this represent about the only accomplishments of his entire city hall tenure.

NYPD is just doing it’s job, but DeBlasio is like the type of anti-semite that uses the Jews for an excuse to deflect blame.
DeBlasio has done a very horrible job in protecting the citizens of his city and he, like a certain type of classic anti-semite, finds it useful to find a group, as usual, the Jews, to point a finger at and make himself seem less culpable.
In other instances, he may not appear to be an anti-semite, but this type of anti-semitism is, often, the most harmful.

The FACT is that covid 19 does not cause death to children under 18, so this is a LIE what the mayor and others are constantly saying that “this is for the safety of our children” if that was true, then schools should be closed for every flu season.

I wasn’t even aware of this incident until it was part of the lead story this evening on the NBC evening national news. Cruz’s passionate concerns about “religious freedom” in NYC would be better focused on his home state where the “rush to reopen” will cost lives. All the schools in NYC are CLOSED for the remainder of the school year. That includes public AND religious schools. The Catholic archdiocese and 99 percent of conservative and orthodox Jewish schools have complied with the State’s closure order. What made their reckless behavior even more of a chilul hashem was their claim that these talmidim were just spontaneous chavrusahs that just happened to show up at the same time and were following all the distancing and facemask guideleines. The virus has killed Chassidim at a rate that public health data suggests may exceed the rates for other ethnic or religious groups.
