On Sunday May 18th, The Bikur Cholim of Passaic-Clifton and Hatzolah of Passaic/Clifton EMS collaborated to present the First Annual Community Wide Health and Safety Fair. The event was a huge success and drew well over a thousand men, women and children eager to have fun while learning about ways to preserve and enhance health and safety.
Over thirty booths filled YBH’s main auditorium as attendees strolled around conversing with presenters and collecting informative literature, and many giveaways, including free first aid kits. Complimentary blood pressure and glucose screenings were available, as well as information on options in home security systems, vitamins, and senior living. The fair provided a wealth of valuable services and information.
As he was leaving the event, Passaic Mayor Gary Schaer [profiled yesterday HERE on YWN] commented, “You guys are really doing fantastic things.” A long-time Passaic resident said that it was the best attended event he’s ever seen in the local community.
Children got to see magic and puppet shows, clowns making balloons balloon sculptures, arts and crafts, a fitness class specialized for children, and, most obviously, ambulance, police, and fire-fighting vehicles and equipment. These and other kid-friendly offerings made the fair a family centered- destination such a extravaganza. Hundreds of braved the rain to watch as Hatzolah members from Passaic, Clifton, and Lakewood completed a car extrication, demonstrating how a trapped person would be removed from a vehicle in an emergency.
Hakaras hatov to the event’s corporate sponsors, workshop leaders, booth presenters and dedicated volunteers from both Bikur Cholim and Hatzolah, for making the debut fair a fantastic success.
Special thanks to the Passaic Police Department for completing many car seat safety inspections (appointments available at City Hall for parents who missed this); the Passaic Fire Department, which gave tours of its fire engine to hundreds of excited children; and to Lakewood Hatzalah for coming out with their Rescue Truck to participate in the extrication drill.

I was at the fair. It was run very organzed and offered many great resources for the community as well as some free stuff that everyone enjoyed. It was very well attended, and beautiful to see the mix of Passaic residents all as one group.
