(PHOTO LINK IN EXTENDED ARTICLE) NYC Comptroller William C. Thompson was welcomed at a private reception, hosted in his honor, by prominent community Askanim Chaskel Bennett and Jonathan Schenker – this past Thursday night.
The Comptroller was warmly greeted by many noted community members and activists among them:
Former Commissioner Abe Biderman, Former City Council member Ken Fisher, Yitzchok Fuchs, Rabbi Edgar Gluck, Former Commissioner Jonathan Greenspun, Jerry Greenwald, Rabbi Shea Hecht, Jack Jaffa, Joe Lazar, Rabbi Shmuel Lefkowitz, Rabbi Yisroel Lefkowitz, Dr. Stephen and Mrs. Ruthie Smirlock, Congressman Ed Towns, NYPD clergy liason Raphael Treitel and many others.
The Comptroller spoke of his desire to continue working on behalf of all New Yorkers and specifically on behalf of the special educational needs of the Jewish community. As a public servant for many decades, first serving in the Brooklyn Borough Presidents office and then as President of the Board of Education, the Comptroller is well aware of and has been very responsive to the diverse needs of the Jewish community and many long time activists admire and respect his lengthy record on behalf of the religious community.
As Comptroller he had stood up against injustice and has used the power of the Comptrollers office as a tool against anti -semitism and discrimination.
