Video & Photos: Fire In Flatbush Apartment Building

YW-Fire OP And Ditmas-0001.jpg(Video & Photo links in extended story) At approximately 5:30PM Tuesday afternoon, a large fire broke out at 535 Ocean Parkway – just next door to Yeshiva Torah Temimah. The obvious billowing smoke, and huge flames visible from the busy street prompted dozens to call 911.

Two brave officers from the NYPD’s 70th Pct saw the flames and placed their lives on the line to save others. They raced up the stairs, and searched the apartment to make sure that there was no one trapped. After confirming that all occupants were not in the apartment, one of the officers did not see his partner. He frantically informed the NYPD dispatcher over his radio that his partner was missing – prompting numerous police cars to converge on the scene. Just minutes later, the officer was located, and was thankfully uninjured.

Thanks to the rapid response of the FDNY, the fire was brought under control in under 30 minutes.

Hatzolah ambulances from Flatbush and Boro Park were dispatched to the scene, and Hatzolah transported a total of four NYPD Officers to the hospital for minor smoke-inhalation. Additionally, Hatzolah treated two other patients for difficulty breathing. Thankfully, all injuries were non-life threatening.

Most notably, was the way that the FDNY, NYPD, and Hatzolah worked hand-in-hand to treat all the victims, and maintain a safe scene.
