Greenfield, Niederman, Felder & Eichenstein Make Brooklyn’s Most Powerful List

Only six frum Jews made the cut on “City & State’s” Power 100 list of the one hundred most powerful and influential residents of Brooklyn’s 2.65 million people in the annual City & State list published this week.

Leading the list, once again, is David G. Greenfield, the former Councilman and now CEO of Met Council on Jewish Poverty – America’s largest Jewish tzedakah. Greenfield’s political expertise and deep political relationships across the spectrum allowed him to successfully pass state-wide legislation on behalf of the neediest New Yorkers earning him the 32nd spot on the list. At number 37, was Satmar’s Rabbi David Niederman who was recognized for his leadership in fighting the anti-vaxxer movement in the frum community. Number 60 this year was Senator Simcha Felder whose ability to switch from the Republican caucus back to the Democratic caucus now leading the Senate landed him on the list. The frum community’s newest legislator, Assemblyman Simcha Eichenstein, made the cut at number 82 for making history as the first Chasidic Jew to become a state legislator and for securing funding for summer camps. Finally, prolific real-estate developers Toby Moskovits and Michael Lichtenstein shared the 72nd slot for their political activism and success as developers of the new Williamsburg Hotel.

Others prominent Jews on the list include Unites States Senator Charles Schumer at number 2. NY Assembly Ways & Means Chair Helene Weinstein at number 9. Assemblyman Steven Cymbrowitz, Chair of the NYS Assembly Housing Committee, came in at number 24. Maimonides Medical Center CEO Ken Gibbs was number 55. Lobbyist Join Yoswein who owns her eponymous firm is number 67. Former New York State Governor Eliot Spitzer made something of a comeback joining the list in the final slot – number 100.

  1. We are still in galus. Don’t post such headlines. The tone of the article should have been ” several askanim who do much for the public good have been recognized by…” and then named them.

  2. Dov Hikind must be upset that he didn’t make the list.
Why were Kalmen Yeger and Chaim Deutsch left off?
Joni Yoswein, a name from the past was one of Mel Millers staff members many many years ago.
