NY Man Found Guilty Of Threatening 2 GOP Congress Members

A western New York man faces up to 10 years in prison after being found guilty of making threats against two Republican members of Congress last year.

A jury in federal court in Buffalo found Carlos Bayon guilty Wednesday of retaliating against a public official and making interstate threats.

Prosecutors said Bayon left menacing voicemails for Reps. Steve Scalise of Louisiana and Cathy McMorris Rodgers of Washington.

Scalise was one of five people wounded in June 2017 when a gunman attacked a Republican baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia.

Prosecutors said Bayon’s messages said in part, “You are taking ours. We are taking yours.”

Bayon admitted that he left the messages but his attorney argued that the messages were not as threatening as prosecutors suggested.
