Police say a 50-year-old man has died and two others were injured in an apartment fire in Queens.

The fire began around 3 a.m. Monday on the fifth floor of a residential building on Elmhurst Avenue.

Authorities said George Ortega was found inside and later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

A 30-year-old man and 36-year-old woman suffered smoke inhalation in the same apartment and were taken to local hospitals.

Police said the injured man is in critical condition while the woman is in stable condition.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire.
