Super-Progressive “Agitator” NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams ‏Arrested Outside Governor Cuomo’s Office

NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams has been arrested outside New York Governor Cuomo’s office in Albany, during a “Housing Justice 4 All” protest with a coalition of activists.

For those who don’t know, Williams is a proud “agitator” who has been arrested too many times to count; at black-lives-matters protests, Occupy Wall Street demonstrations, the Trayvon Martin protests and the ‘he’s not my president’ protests on inauguration day. He was an outspoken critic of “stop-and-frisk”, the NYPD tool used for years to reduce crime in the city.

Jumaane Williams won the race for New York City Public Advocate this past February, after serving on the New York City Council, representing the 45th District in Brooklyn since 2009.

Hundreds of protesters frustrated by the slow movement of proposals to strengthen tenant protections in New York state have blocked access to the Senate and Assembly chambers.

The group marched through the Capitol chanting protests Tuesday morning before taking positions outside the legislative chambers.

State Police began arresting individuals who refused to move.

The state law governing rent control and rent stabilization rules in the New York City area are set to expire later this month. Those rules regulate rental increases for thousands of older multi-unit apartment buildings.

While lawmakers are expected to renew the law, the protesters who gathered at the Capitol on Tuesday want to see stronger protections for tenants, including a possible statewide rental law.

The Democrat-led Legislature is scheduled to adjourn June 19.

  1. A criminal record within the last twelve months ought to disqualify someone from public office. Unfortunately the NYC charter doesn’t agree.

  2. @lakewhut:
The askanim did NOT endorse this rebel rouser, Williams.
They did endorse Eric Ulrich, a Republican, who came in 2nd. If we band together, we can still get one of our own candidates in there, as
