8:00AM IL: Officials in Jerusalem’s Shaare Zedek Medical Center on Wednesday morning report Maran Rav Yosef Sholom [ben Chaya Musha] Elyashiv is in stable condition, admitted to the 10th floor cardiology department of the hospital. It appears he contracted some type of infection.

Rav Elyashiv on Tuesday complained of shortness of breath, prompting the decision to transport him to the hospital late Tuesday night.

Hospital officials on Wednesday morning report he complained of weakness and had a fever upon his arrival. Rav Elyashiv will most likely remain hospitalized for the coming days as tests are conducted. Officials explain the decision to place him in the cardiology wing surround the Rav’s past medical history. His condition on Wednesday morning was described as stable.

3:00PM IL: Maran Rav Yosef Sholom [ben Chaya Musha] Elyashiv is reported to be showing slight improvement. Doctors at Shaare Zedek Medical Center report he did have some pulmonary edema and a systemic infection when he arrived late Tuesday night, and as such, he will remain admitted until at least Friday.

Additionally, Rishon L’Tzion, HaRav Mordechai [Tzemach ben Mazel Tov] Eliyahu, who suffered a major heart attack on Friday night, continues to recuperate in Shaare Zedek as well, reported to be in stable condition. Today, Wednesday, at 17:00, special tefillos will take place at the Kosel on their behalf.
