A burglar assaulted two NYPD Officers in Boro Park, as cops tried to take him into custody, Wednesday afternoon.
The incident unfolded when a homeowner called the Shomrim emergency hotline and reported a burglary. The caller said that a man just broke into his home on 53 Street between 18th and 19th Avenues, and that he confronted the suspect, asking him what he was doing there, to which he responded “I’m looking for someone”. The suspect then fled on foot.
Police were immediately notified, and Shomrim began canvassing the area. They eventually found him on 20 Avenue and 54 Street.
Police were notified where the man was, and attempted to stop him on 58 Street and 20 Avenue. Instead of complying with officers, the suspect fled on foot. He was apprehended on the same street, and began throwing punches at police officers. Additional officers responded, and the man was placed under arrest.
Boro Park Hatzolah was called for the two injured officers. One was transported to the hospital by Hatzolah, and the second officer was treated on the scene and released.
He was expected to be charged with burglary as well as assaulting police officers.
