Two Massachusetts residents have sued the New York Post, accusing the newspaper of falsely portraying them as suspects in the Boston Marathon bombings.
The lawsuit filed Wednesday in Suffolk Superior Court said photographs and articles published three days after the bombings made it appear that the FBI was pursuing 16-year-old Salaheddin Barhoum and 24-year-old Yassine Zaimi. The pair was featured on the front page under the headline “Bag Men.”
The Boston Globe reports that the suit accuses the newspaper of libel, negligent infliction of emotional distress and invasion of privacy. It also alleges the newspaper subjected the friends to “scorn, hatred, ridicule, or contempt.”
The plaintiffs are seeking unspecified monetary damages.
The Post had no comment Wednesday. An editor previously said the two were not identified as suspects.

Pleased to hear that they are proceeding with the suit against that irresponsible sensationalistic rag.
I think this is a good thing. Newspapers and other news media are out of control and this can only serve to help keep them in line. There’s no consequences today for printing the story first and checking the facts later.
hope they bankrupt and shut down that rag of a paper.
To all the frumies out there against the paper. You don’t have to read it. Yes, there are pictures in there that aren’t so flattering, however is the NY Times completely clean? I’ll show you an issue of the Miami Herald and you’ll be screaming. Why am I defending the Post so sincerely? It’s refreshing to see a politically right-wing leaning paper who is pro-Israel. Can’t say the same about the Times. So we can eliminate this “rag” and let the times take the entire spotlight or we can be mature and realistic about the issue.
