According to a report released by AFP, quoting a senior Iraqi government minister, Baghdad will respond to any attempt by Israel to use its airspace in an attack against Iran’s nuclear facilities.
Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister responsible for energy affairs Hussein al-Shahristani released his official warning to tell Israel its most direct route to Iran is off limits. The minister adds that his country has already received American assurances that the US would not use its airspace to attack Iran.
“The (Americans) have assured us that they will never violate Iraqi airspace or Iraqi sovereignty by using our airspace to attack any of our neighbors,” Shahristani said in an interview in his office Baghdad office.
“We have also warned Israel that if they violate Iraqi airspace, they will have to bear the consequences.”
