Firefighters struggled against high winds as they battled an out-of-control six-alarm fire at an apartment building in Brooklyn on Wednesday afternoon.
About 250 firefighters and EMTs responded to the fire, which broke out on the top floor of the six-story building on 44th Street near 7 Avenue in the Sunset Park neighborhood just after 4:30PM.
The FDNY rescued numerous people from fire escapes when they arrived.
Shortly after, the FDNY transmitted a “10-66”, fearing that they had a firefighter unaccounted for. Thankfully, after performing a tense roll-call, all members were located.
Fire officials say four civilians and 19 fire fighters suffered non-life threatening injuries.
The fire caused the roof to collapse onto the top floor and the fire officials say the building has been severely damaged. They expect crews to be at the scene overnight.
The windy weather conditions are feeding the fire, and causing heavy smoke to drift over nearby Boro Park.
Additionally, at the same time, there was a fire in a basement in Boro Park at 1437 52nd Street near 14 Avenue – SEE LAST VIDEO.
