An Iowa Republican senator is expressing irritation at what he calls “idiotic” comments by President Donald Trump about wind energy.

Trump, at the National Republican Congressional Committee’s annual spring dinner Tuesday night, said noise from wind turbines causes cancer.

Sen. Chuck Grassley said in a conference call with reporters Wednesday that the comments “were first of all idiotic and it doesn’t show much respect for Chuck Grassley as the grandfather of the wind energy tax credit.”

Grassley was instrumental in approving a federal tax credit 26 years ago that has spurred wind energy development.

The White House declined to comment.

Iowa is a national leader in wind energy, with more than 4,000 turbines.

Asked about Trump’s claim, Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds refused to say the president was wrong, saying it was not her place to do so.

“You know how those things change. One year coffee is good for you and the next year coffee causes cancer,” she said. “That’s what happens. We’ve got a lot of people that are driving the industry and investing in the industry and we should be proud of our position.”

She noted Iowa generates 40% of its electricity from wind.

  1. Senator Chuck Grassley shouldn’t have opened his mouth so quickly as there is data showing wind turbines do cause physical and mental disturbances on human beings. I would not be so quick to discount that cancer can’t be caused by the wind turbines as high frequency noise can cause deafness and also brain damage.

“An Ontario community-based self-reporting health survey, WindVOiCe, identified the most commonly reported IWT-induced symptoms as altered quality of life, sleep disturbance, excessive tiredness, headache, stress, and distress. Other reported effects include migraines, hearing problems, tinnitus, heart palpitations, anxiety, and depression. In addition, degraded living conditions and adverse socioeconomic effects have been reported. In some cases the effects were severe enough that individuals in Ontario abandoned their homes or reached financial agreements with wind energy developers.”

  2. At least it’s comforting to see a few republicans willing to express the truth about this degenerate incompetent dumbbell.

  3. “it doesn’t show much respect for Chuck Grassley as the grandfather of the wind energy tax credit.”
That’s what we care about now? It’s going to stink when Trump is out of office and we’re back to the old school Republicans that most Trump voters dislike.

  4. Just because wind turbines dont cause cancer doesnt mean that it is a lie to say that they do. Every loyal Trump supporter knows that there are alternative facts as well as actual facts.

  5. Under the man-bites-dog definition of news, it’s not news when Trump says something stupid. It’s news when he doesn’t.

  6. I’ve never heard of noise causing cancer, but there’s some evidence that it might cause heart problems. But cancer or not, wind turbines are a terrible boondoggle that will never be profitable without massive government subsidies. They only work when the wind blows, even then they rarely work at anything even approaching full capacity, they’re constantly breaking down, and worst of all the whole plant has a lifespan of only twenty years. The entire cost of construction and decommissioning has to be paid for over those twenty years, while a coal plant can easily last fifty years.

  7. Mr. Trump needs a doctor – specifically, a neurologist with special experience in stroke and early dementia. I used to think he was just just an opportunist, but the last two weeks have shaken my faith that he has any logical program at all. Recent events have raised the possibility that our country is being led by a person who is suffering from cognitive deficits that endanger our nation domestically and on the world stage, and incidentally also weaken Israel, which depends so much on US backing.

  8. Is Mr Grassely actually surprised that Trump lacks basic decency and respect for others?????

    This is the man that:
    Mocked his opponents appearance
Mocked the looks of his opponents wife
    Mocked a disabled reporter
Mocked his rivals with childish name calling and labels
Publicly berated and humiliated his AG who was his first and most loyal supporter.
Publicly berated and humiliated many who served in our armed forces and intelligence community.

Its about time Mr. Grassley took his head out of the sand.

  9. Unless you believe that the great lakes are “record deepness” and that “wind turbines” cause cancer you should recognize that America is being led by a totaly ignorant con man.
