Barbara Bush says Donald Trump caused her “angst” during the 2016 election, blamed him for her “heart attack” and said he led her to question whether she was still a Republican in the months before she died.
The late former first lady’s thoughts about Trump were revealed in excerpts published Wednesday in USA Today of an upcoming biography, “The Matriarch: Barbara Bush and the Making of an American Dynasty”.
“It wasn’t technically a heart attack, though she called it that,” USA Today’s Washington bureau chief Susan Page writes.
“It was a crisis in her long battle with congestive heart failure and chronic pulmonary disease that hit her like a sledgehammer one day in June 2016,” when Trump had secured the GOP nomination.
Bush described her “angst” after the tumultuous presidential campaign, during which Trump derided her son as “Low Energy Jeb.”
“Afterward, Jeb, whose presidential campaign was already history, urged her to let it go, to focus on herself and have faith in the country,” according to an excerpt.
“Jeb said, ‘Mom, don’t worry about things you can’t do anything about,’ ” Bush recalled. “He’s right. Just do good, make life better for someone else.”
In a February 2018 interview, Bush was asked if she still considered herself a Republican. She replied, “I’d probably say ‘no’ today.”
She died in April at age 92.
Bush recalls drafting a funny letter to mail after the election congratulating Bill Clinton on becoming a presidential spouse. But Bush said when she woke up, she realized “to my horror that Trump had won.”
A friend gave Bush a clock that counted down the time remaining in Trump’s first term that she kept at her bedside.

always blame some one else for your inability to do something.
She should have learned to deal with life’s inequalities. BUT then it is always easier to blame some one else than improve yourself…..

Barbara Bush blamed Trump for almost having a heart attack after he bad-mouthed her baby boy Jeb.
But….. she almost committed suicide after discovering her husband’s special longtime friendship with his secretary.
So actually her husband was a much bigger threat to her than Trump was!! (Of course, relatively speaking.)
