Baruch Dayan Emes
WOW !!!!!!!!
Tremendous loss for Klal Yisrael, A True legend in our time.
The Rosh Yeshiva Zatzal was responsible for tens of thousands of jews returning to Hashem which inturn affects 100s of thousands . What a greeting in Shomayim.
Woe to us with such a indescribable loss !!!
Baruch Dayen Emes!! Everyday I got a paper in my school & many times after mincha we said tehillim for him. He was such a wonderful man, what a loss to klal yisrael. May we only hear of Simchas!
A true Slabodka royal talmid who revived Harbotzes Hatorah in America.
Boruch Dayan Emes. Another tremendous loss for Klal Yisrael
Klal Yisroel just lost a true giant.Someone who was a leader not just in Torah but in middos as well.He should be a malitz yosher for us all.
He was the Rosh Yeshiva with the longest “tenure,” more than 60 years!
Nafla ateres rosheinu.
brouch dayen hemes what a loss

I only knew the Rosh Yeshivah ztsl through his sforim. But his insights have inspired me and those who i have shared them with. He was a true Gaon in machshovoh and hashkofo. He will surely plead in Shomayim for a Geuloh kerovoh. Boruch Dayan Ho’emmes
The time of the levaya has been changed to 1:30pm
– how old was the rosh yeshiva?
Is the Levayah comming to Eretz Yisroel? Boruch Dayan Hoemes.
eis ztorah hi l’yakov!
The RoshHayeshiva ZTL was (if my calculations are correct) 89.

A profound loss for all of Klal Yisrael. A true paragon of Mussar in a time where too few remain.
Incidentally, #3 (“therebbe”): Based on your comment, I believe you may be misidentifying the Niftar, Ztz”l.
The Rosh HaYeshiva ZT”L was 24 years old in 1941 when his father Hagaon R’ Dovid Leibowitz ZT”L was niftar and he took over as Rosh Yeshiva. That would’ve made him 90-91. I can’t imagine what the reunion between him and his father will (was?) like in shamayim. His entire life was dedicated (in the fullest sense of the word) to perpetuating his father’s vision of not compromising Torah and Mussar, and producing “Gavra’s”. May he be a Meilitz Yosher for the Yeshiva and Gantz Klal Yisrael. Bilaa Hamaves L’Netzach…
Baruch Dayan HaEmes
TORAH TORAH CHAGREI SAK!!! OY LANU KI NOFLAH ATERES ROSHEINU!! OY LASEFINA SHE-OVAD KABERNATIYA!! The Rosh Hayeshivah should be a meilitz yosher for the gantz klal yisroel.
Baruch Dayan Emes May we only have simchas.
He was a great man- I had the zchus to speak to him several years ago one shabbos afternoon for a few hours where he literally cried to me and begged me to go back to my roots and stop going out with a non-jewish girl…. It made a lasting impression on me and I will never forget that day. I remember him telling me that he became Rosh Yeshiva at age 24 in 1941 so that would have made him 90 or 91 and not 89 as stated above…..
Baruch Dayan Haemes. This is another tremendous loss to klal yisroel. The loss/tragedy is coming from all sides, there is no ‘group’ (chasidish, yeshivish, litvish, moder orthodox etc) of Jews, who have not lost a godol within the last year. This is a gezeira that has been aimed at the whole klal yisroel-we better wake up fast and do teshuvah, as a klal, and individually.
Nafla Ateres Rosheinu! A loss for the entire Klal Yisrael! He was a Gadol who made Gedolim. He was a Rebbe who had Talmidim. His influence was far reaching. He turned American boys into real mentchen 60 years ago and still today! New York … Miami … Milwaukee … L.A. … Vancouver … Dallas … St. Louis … Cherry Hill … Manalapan … Yerushalayim … Ramat Beit Shemesh … he has founded yeshivos across the globe .. he has talmadim who are rabbanim in cities all through the country. He has talmidim whose fathers and grandfathers were his talmidim. May he be a mailitz yoshar for Klal Yisrael in these precarious times. “Umacha H-shem…”
May we know of no more sorrow.
BD”E. He z”l would talk to young shnucks as if they were his age. A Pashtan. Among all other Malos. Yehi zichroi boruch.
There will be a phone hookup of the levaya starting at 1:30pm the number is (218) 936-1600 access number 7601147
Dearest #21 (Newer Square) obviously you didn’t know the Rosh Yeshiva Zatzal’s message. He connected with the Yeshiva Bachur with the College Student with the working man with the modern orthodox with the not yet frum and even the totally unaffiliated. He gave over the Mesorah He got from his father who got from his Rebbe who got from his Rebbe…… that Torah must be passed down from Rebbe to Talmid with Hadrachas Hachaim and total dedication. The Rosh Yeshiva’s message spread from town to town and city to city opening Yeshivos and Batei Midrash in places unthinkable. If that’s not considered “responsible for tens of thousands of jews returning to Hashem which inturn affects 100s of thousands” (comment #3) then what is. If you don’t realize the Rosh Yeshivas’ goal you should talk to any talmid and he’ll explain it to you. For refferences look at comment #26
כולנו צריכים לעשות תשובה
thr rosh hashivah was head of yeshivas chofetz chaim that moved from williamsburgh to forest hills, queens. it was only within the last 5-10 years that the yeshiva moved to their new campus in kew garden hills, queens. he was a phenomenal bal mashpia and numerous talmidim thru his direction went out throughout the usa and canada, became rosh yeshivas of newly established mosdos hatorah or rabbonim in various communities throughout the usa and canada.the rosh hashivah loved torah and its values. when yeshivas shar hatorah opened up in kew gardens the rosh hashiva was there to encourage its opening and its establishment even though it was established in the chofetz chaims own back yard.he was a giant of our zman .t’hey nismoso tzror b’zror hachaim. he will be a great bettar for our dor and our communities here and in eretz israel.t’n’z’b’h’
the rosh hayeshiva was such a special person. i peronally knew him because he was my great uncle. whenever he came to my house my whole family felt a warmth from him. he always made everyone around him feel special. he always had a smile on his face.he knew what real simcha was. he shaped thousands of lives with his torah and shmuzin. i will personally miss him, my family will miss him and klal yisroel will miss him
Baruch Dayan HaEmes. The rosh hasiva is responisble for talmidim learnig in yeshavas all over the country including myself. Klal Yisroel has loss a true Torah pillar.
the rosh hayeshiva was such a special person. he was my great uncle. i got a preatty solid glimpse of what he was made out of. he always had a smile on whenever my family would see him. he would make everyone feel so special when they talked to him. i was once with him at a friday night meal and this kiruv rabbi came to the house we were eating at and wanted the rosh hayeshiva to talk to these totally not frum people. he was very weak but spoke anyway. he said hashem loves us no matter what we do and he said it with such emotion. it really made an impression on me. you could really sense the GADLUS HA”ADAM in him, the way he held himself. the impact he had on klal yisroel is like no other with his torah and SHMUZEN. every talmid he had had a personal kesher with him. after giving shiur he used to drive around to cool himself off from such an intense shiur. thats real ahavas hatorah. i will miss him, my family will miss him, and klal yisroel will miss him
Alumni Email Update:
1. To accomodate the huge interest in listening to tomorrow’s Levaya (our regular service could only accomodate 150 lines), we have arranged a second service with 1000 lines, at a different, second number. Call 712-432-1001, and use access number 431 23 8585#.
2. The Yeshiva has also been able to set up a live video feed of the Levaya which you can access from your personal computer. Connect to http://pointers.audiovideoweb.com/asxfiles-live/1c2winlive6951.asx. There are no limits to the number of people who can access this video feed, and it is accessible from anywhere in the world.*\*
3. To accomodate the fact that all the local yeshivos are already off for Pesach and kids are home, some local girls have volunteered and offered to create a babysitting room during the Levaya, to enable mothers to attend Rebbe’s Levaya undisturbed. Mothers should prepare by writing their child’s name and their cell phone/emergency number on a small card and pin it to each child or infant they bring. Include any allergy information. Mothers should also be aware that there are no toys or supplies in Yeshiva and should send everything their child may need, labeled with their child’s name, including (but not limited to) diapers, wipes, pacifiers, bottles, snacks, drinks, toys, books, anything these girls will need to take care of your young child (please only boys till age 6) during the Levaya. They cannot take responsibility for any lost items. Babysitting will begin a few minutes before the Levaya and will conclude a few minutes after the Levaya. This babysitting room will be in the Blatt Shiur Room on the lower level of the Yeshiva, across the hall from where women will be able to sit during the Levaya.
4. All women who come to the Levaya should please enter through the side entrance to the Yeshiva on 147th Street and proceed downstairs to the Dining Room where chairs and a large video screen have been set up for them. If you are bringing a stroller and/or need to use the elevator, enter the building through the left side of the Campus Plaza, near the office, and proceed to the elevator.
5. Any private busses that may be coming should park on 150th Street. The police have set up that street as a staging area.
6. 147th Street in front of the Yeshiva will be closed to vehicular traffic beginning at 12:30 pm, from 73rd Avenue through 77th Avenue. Please attempt to car pool as parking near the Yeshiva is very limited.
7. After the Levaya, the aron will be driven up to Union Turnpike and will make a right turn onto Union Turnpike. Any and all cars going to the Bais Hakevaros should line up behind the hearse on Union Turnpike and down 147th Street. The local police department plans to shut down Union Turnpike to other vehicular traffic, to enable the expected, large funeral procession to proceed unencumbered.
7. Rabbi Welcher shlita has paskened that any talmid who went through the Rosh HaYeshiva’s Blatt Shiur and/or who feels very saddened by the passing of Rebbe zatzal should tear kriah on their shirt after the Levaya, with shem umalchus, Those not attending the Levaya should do so at 3 pm DST.
8. We hope everyone understands the huge operation that we are attempting to perform and will bear with us if there are any snags. We apologize in advance for any difficulties we may experience. We just want to perform Kavod Acharon for our beloved Rebbe zatzal.
Live video feed of the levaya will be available at 1:30pm at http://rsavideo.noblejewels.net
Wow, what a huge loss! I shiver by the sheer number of great gedolim that have just recently been niftar. May Hashem be mocheil us for our aveiros that are causing this gezaira. It is amazing how many small communities have come alive in Yiddishkeit due to the talmidim of R’ Leibowitz. All over the world, Chofetz Chaim talmidim sprouted seeds in places that Torah was forgotten.
Baruch Dayan HaEmes.
Did the Rosh Yeshiva ZT”L Learn in Yeshivas in Europe before the war?
Oy Vey What a loss!
I always tell Chofetz Chaim Talmidim that the Rosh Yeshiva ZT”L was a VERY special man and I share with them the following 2 stories: 1) When the Rosh Yeshiva’s first Rebbetzin was Niftar the Levaya was on Erev Shabbos, I had come from Lakewood to spend Shabbos in the Yeshiva and after Shachris on Shabbos the Rosh Yeshiva ZT”L was totally B’Simcha as if nothing had happened a few hours ago, (because one should not be sad on Shabbos) This is incredibly remarkable given that she (and the current Rebbetzin as well) were his partner in his Avodas HaKodesh for a number of years.
2) A number of years ago, there was a Torah Umesorah dinner that I was attending, many of the Rosh Yeshivas that were in attendance would make their way to the front table. Since they had no way to get to the front other than to walk in full view of everyone, many people out of Kavod would stand up for them. This caused a disturbance when one a few of the speakers were speaking. I noticed that the Rosh Yeshiva ZT”L quietly found the BACK DOOR of the hall and snuck in through the back and made his way to his seat at the front.
U’Macha Hashem Dimaah M’Al Kol Panim

Like two (51 & 55) requests earlier I too would like to ask: PLEASE MAKE THE VIDEO OF THE LEVAYO AVAILABLE FOR US TO SEE AFTER THE EVENT
here is some of his history. His father, R’ Dovid, was unmatched in pshat and amkus and R’ Yaakov who a close friend of his said he was MAMASH CHAD BDORO in pshat.A a matter of fact he had a seder with his great uncle the chofetz chaim for 12 HOURS CONSECUTIVELY every day. They learned hilchos sukkah together and he wrote the mishna berura on hilchos sukka with him. All this was before he turned 19 because it was at that age he left radin to go slabodka to learn mussar from the alter. R’ Meir Chodosh and R’ Yaakov among other slabodka greats all confirmed that R’Dovid was one of the closest and greatest talmidim of the alter who fully understood and imbibes his mehalech in mussar. He came to amrica in 1926 and after a relatively breif tenure in torah vodaas he opened his own yeshiva in 1933 which he lead until his tragic demise in 1941.At that time the Rosh Hayeshiva zt”l took over at the age of 24. If there is one thing to sum up his entire mahus I could do it in one word :mesorah. His unrlenting commitment to the exact mehalech in learning and mussar of his father was extaordinary. He didnt change one iota. He gave shmuesin exactly the way his father gave them which was exactly the way the alter gave them. I personaaly heard him say on more than occasion “I did not innovate”. Although there are a handful of yeshivos that are 75 years old there are none that can claim to be doing the exact same thing since its inception without the slightest cahge or embelleshments. That was his entire life. He lived it he ate it he breathed it and most of all he spoke about ALL THE TIME
MESORAH MESORAH MESORAH MESORAH MESORAH MESORAH NO CHANGE NO ADDITION NO SUBTRACTION NO INNOVATIONS NO EMBELLESHMENT WHATSOEVER EVERYHING EXACTLY HOW HIS FATHER DID IT
Years ago, Rav Gifter Zt”l said that Rav Henach Leibowitz is the only Rosh Hayeshiva today with REAL talmidim. It’s no wonder that hundreds of talmidim, following the p’sak halacha, tore kriah at the levayah for their rebbe muvhak. Each talmid was treated as his ben yachid! Whether a Rosh Hayeshiva, an elementary school Rebbe, or a baal habaas, he cared for all.
We are all in mourning.
Does anybody know how many people were at the levaya?
The Rosh Hayeshiva took out time to speak to the women several times a year through the sisterhood. (he even allowed questions to be asked of him) He appreciated the mesiras nefesh that the Kollel wives had for their husband’s learning. He also encouraged the women to learn mussar daily and instilled in us the importance of the mesorah. The personal problems of all his talmidim and their families were his concern.
We are all in mourning.
I wrote the folowing yesterday before the levaya. I’m sure many other talmidim share my thoughts.
I never thought this day would come.
I am sitting on the plane, tears streaming down my face, on the way to Rebbi’s levaya. I feel like my world has come crashing down, for my rebbi is no longer here.
It is very hard to put my feelings on paper. The loss I feel is truly uncalculatable. I feel somewhat disconnected, a little lost, as if there is no one to guide me anymore. Rebbi was the person who connected me to the last generation – the person who gave me the Torah that he learned from the previous generation. He is the link in the chain that connects me all the way back to Har Sinai. Although I know that this mesorah will never be lost, in a way I feel that I am not as connected. He was like a father and mother all in one. We were his children, and he loved us so much. In just a few short hours, I will tear kriah for my rebbi.
I will miss his love of every person, I will miss his soft-spoken nature. I will miss his sense of humor. I will miss the way that he connected personally and deeply with every talmid. I will miss his unwavering commitment to upholding the mesorah of his father at all costs and at all times. I will miss his passion for spreading the light of Torah to every Jew everywhere – he would always say “They are waiting for us. They are waiting for us”. I will miss his chizuk that he always gave to us. I will miss his smile. I will miss his unbelievable emunah and bitachon. I will miss his Torah and I will miss his legendary shmuezin.
I will terribly miss my beloved rebbi.
Yehi Zichro Baruch.
does anyone know if we can watch the video of the levaya once its not live anymore??
if you know where to access it, can u email a link to: [email protected]
thank you,
nc
