Man Sentenced For Planned Attack on President’s Limo

A North Dakota man has been sentenced to time served and a year of supervised release for stealing a forklift that he planned to use to attack President Donald Trump’s limousine during a visit to a refinery in 2017.

Forty-two-year-old Gregory Leingang is already serving time for unrelated offenses at the North Dakota State Penitentiary. He pleaded guilty in federal court to entering the presidential motorcade route in Mandan prior to Trump’s arrival at the Andeavor Mandan Refinery on Sept. 6, 2017.

The forklift got stuck in a gated area and Leingang fled on foot. Prosecutors say Leingang planned to harm the president by flipping the limo with the forklift.

The Bismarck Tribune reports Leingang’s attorney Michelle Monteiro says he was suffering “a serious psychiatric crisis” during the incident.
