The NYPD has taken the suspects wanted in Sunday’s carjacking in Flatbush into custody. One of them was shot in the takedown, YWN has learned.
According to information released to YWN by the NYPD, at around 11:00AM Monday morning, officers in the Bronx were made aware that a stolen vehicle wanted in connection to a violent citywide robbery pattern, was located at Sheridan Avenue and East 162nd Street, near Yankee Stadium.
The violence began in the Bronx on Sunday morning at around 6:00AM, when the suspects first carjacked a vehicle and drove to Manhattan where they committed a robbery. They then continued on to Brooklyn, where they committed another two robberies, left the scene of an accident (after crashing their carjacked vehicle on Ford Street), and then carjacked another vehicle on Avenue R and East 29 Street in Flatbush.
The black Hyundai Sonata was tracked by the NYPD, and a “license plate reader” picked up the vehicle on Monday morning in the Bronx.
While police approached the vehicle – which was double-parked – one of the suspects began driving the vehicle in reverse, pinning the officer between the stolen vehicle and a parked car. Officers opened fire at the female driver, critically wounding her.
The driver is hospitalized in critical but stable condition with gunshot wounds to her chest and torso. The officer was being treated for injuries to her hip, leg and pelvis. She was listed in serious but stable condition.
Three other suspects were taken into custody.
Two of the suspects were previously involved in a carjacking and robbery in the Bronx a few months ago, and were out on bail.
