Former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz is considering a run for President in 2020 as an Independent, and he responded to critics of his personal fortune and being a billionaire in America.
“I’ve also been criticized for being a billionaire,” Schultz said Wednesday. “Let’s talk about that. I’m self-made. I grew up in the project in Brooklyn, New York. I thought that was the American dream, the aspiration of America. You’re going to criticize me for — for being successful when in my company over the last 30 years, the only company in America that gave comprehensive health insurance, equity in the form of stock options, and free college tuition? And Elizabeth Warren wants to criticize me for being successful?”
Why don’t people ever tell billionaires who want to run for President that they need to “work their way up” or that “maybe they should start with city council first”? https://t.co/3d8Nenrvl5

“This bartender” has served in a Senate casework office, organized & educated 1000s of young people, earned relevant degrees w/ honors, worked on field campaigns, and the only reason I wasn’t told to run for city council was because I was consistently told not to run at all. https://t.co/MOzOtP9Xhd

Great!
It’s about we have this conversation. I’m happy to see someone defend himself instead of folding and running from the crowd of whiny jealous communists.
As far as I can tell
Starbucks
Walmart
Microsoft
Apple
IBM
Facebook
All created ultra billionaires ( Schultz is the poorest) by creating a desire in people for a voluntary product. I may not agree with the product (facebook, 5$ coffee) but, hey! America is a free place.
The only company I know of that steamrolls people to take their opportunity away is amazon and the US government .
So let the government take over amazon and leave everyone else alone
The great American paradox … everyone wants to be rich and everyone hates the rich. God bless America.
klugeryid, absolutely not! The government shouldn’t touch Amazon, it’s bad enough that they forced Amazon to charge tax on all electronics.
Exactly how does Amazon take away opportunities from people? When you take a job everything is in the contract, same as with Amazon. This is the US, there’s a lot of opportunity out there, there’s no need to take a job that you don’t like the terms of.

I don’t know if you will see this, however the way that Amazon works is if they see you selling an item which is very popular they will sell it at a loss even in order to generate Amazon sales they will easily and readily lose money on the sales because the fact that they are generating numbers of sales is a good for their stock price they don’t care if they make or lose money on the item therefore you cannot compete with such business practices I personally know many business that were forced out of business due to the fact that Amazon was selling their products for cheaper than they could get it for Amazon burned through investors money for years losing money every quarter losing billions of dollars until they cleared away many many small businesses to create their current juggernaut their success is and was built upon the demise of many people on purpose they trampled on the small businesses as opposed to other businesses which just created a demand or a desire for a product which led to their success
klugeryid, perhaps I don’t understand how Amazon works but as far as I know they have sellers who sell their products on Amazon, Amazon doesn’t sell products directly to consumers only provides a platform for sellers and storage and shipping for those sellers who want these services. It is the sellers on Amazon who compete with each other over lower prices if they could ( many brand- name items, primarily electronics and designer fashion, have to be priced according to the manufacturers list price and is priced the same in all stores and online. )
Small and large businesses are suffering from Amazon AND from other large online shopping sites. These days people would rather make purchases on Amazon then go to stores or shop online on websites that carry only a few of the items that one needs. If an item needs to be returned, Amazon has an excellent return policy. Also, reviews help out a lot in the decision making process and Amazon is a great site for reviews.
It’s great if one can support local heimishe businesses, but for some people it’s not an option. Amazon has enabled many heimishe people to make a nice parnassah too.
