Car Crashes Onto Steps Of NYC Supreme Courthouse

courthouse mva.jpgSix people were injured this morning, including a man who was pinned by a car after it jumped the curb outside the NYC Supreme Courthouse.

The crash happened shortly before 11 a.m. at 60 Centre Street.

Police and witnesses say the car jumped the curb at a high rate of speed before smashing into a coffee cart and then four pedestrians in front of the building.

It came to a stop on top of a man who was pinned from the mid-chest down. Rescuers used a power saw to free the man from the car, and pulled him to safety shortly before noon. He was transported to a local hospital by ambulance.

Officials say three other pedestrians were struck while trying to jump out of the way, and the two passengers inside the car also suffered injuries from the crash. All were taken to a local hospital, but their conditions are not known.

The man pinned underneath the car was said to have suffered the worst of the injuries, but officials believe all victims are expected to survive.

Witnesses believe the driver of the vehicle may have suffered a seizure as they say foam was coming from the driver’s mouth and was incoherent when pulled from the vehicle.
