A fire broke out at the Hebrew Academy of Five Towns (HAFTR) in Lawrence early Thursday morning, causing damage to some classrooms.
Lawrence-Cedarhurst and Inwood firefighters responded to the fire at around 3:00AM, inside the second floor of the HAFRT elementary school located at 33 Washington Avenue in Lawrence. The school has pre-K through grade 12.
“It was confined to one classroom, a large classroom,” Chief Edward Kohler, Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department to WABC. “A little extension to the hallway, and a little extension to the outside of the building when the flames came out the windows.”
Sources have reported that a STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) lab and at least four classrooms were damaged.
The is smoke damage throughout the building.
Thankfully, there were no injuries reported.
Due to an unfortunate fire at the lower school campus, the early childhood, elementary school and middle school campuses will be closed today, Thursday, January 10.

The fire does not seem suspicious, Nassau County Police said.
According to a report by WABC, power strips in the computer server room caught fire.
There will be no school for students of the lower school Thursday.
