Dozens of homes were evacuated in Lakewood on Monday morning, as crews investigated a fire and gas explosion, officials say.
A call about a two-alarm fire near Second Street and Forest Avenue in Lakewood Township came in around 8 a.m. Monday. NJ Natural Gas says a contractor installing a sewer line struck a natural gas main in the area. Its crews were on scene within 15 minutes and able to turn off the valve, rendering the area safe.
A resident doing excavation work in their backyard reportedly hit a gas line. Sparks from a tractor triggered the fire, which caused exterior damage, Police Commissioner Meir Lichtenstein told TLS.
Lichtenstein said initial reports indicate the gas line was unmarked.
Thankfully, there were no injuries reported.

I hope all the crew members were vaccinated. If not, that would present a much greater danger to the public than a silly gas leak.
To comment #1:
2 homes got burnt. 2 families are now living in only part of their original house.
Now is not the time for such comments.
Nowadays, all over America all kinds of strange things are happening. We need to make peace with each other.
Hashem wants the fighting all over America to stop.
In the merit of making peace, the Almighty will protect us from all kinds of tragedies.
