Mesivta of Greater Los Angeles Evacuated – Entire Calabasas Under Mandatory Evacuation Due To Wildfire


A entire Yeshiva has evacuated due to the raging wildfire in Southern California.

The Mesivta of Greater Los Angeles evacuated their 8.2 acre campus on Thursday night. The Sifrei Torah were taken with the Yeshiva, as they relocated away from the fire. The Mesivta is a Yeshiva High School with dormitory facilities, located in the beautiful mountains of Calabasas, CA.

The Yeshiva has approximately 60 Bochrim, and is under the leadership of Rav Shlomo Gottesman.

The Yeshiva has been temporarily relocated to Bais Medrash Adas Torah, 9040 West Pico Blvd.

On Sunday afternoon, the entire city of Calabasas was under Mandatory Evacuation Orders.

Powered by Santa Ana winds and dry air, the Woolsey Fire erupted Thursday afternoon in Ventura County before it raced into Los Angeles County, burning through areas from Calabasas west to Point Mugu State Park, north into Simi Valley and south to PCH.

By Sunday afternoon, it had scorched more than 130 square miles, destroying at least 177 homes and forcing the evacuation of more than 265,000 people. Containment stands at 15 percent.

  1. I live on the East coast. I heard about the fires in California. It hurts me a lot to read about houses getting burnt, people having to evacuate and also the mind boggling speed of the fire. I was very bothered by the fact that some people died, some people got injured. It really hurts a lot.
    May the Almighty help you all and put an end to all these fires quickly.
