President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump met with doctors, nurses and victims of the synagogue massacre at UPMC Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh on Tuesday evening.
Joined by his daughter Ivanka and Jared Kushner, the President also met with police officers and medics to get a window into their efforts to save lives during and after the mass shooting that left 11 Jews dead.
In fact most of the president’s visit to Pittsburgh – more than an hour and 20 minutes – was spent inside the hospital, where he spoke with an officer still receiving treatment, two previously discharged and another who applied a tourniquet to one of the officers.
President Trump took photos with Pittsburgh Police Chief Scott Schubert as well as SWAT team members and medics.
Trump also met with the widow of Dr. Richard Gottfried and with a first-responder who was shot seven times.
Trump handed out a coin to at least one medic that read “Make America Great Again.”
“The president kept a solemn tone and was gracious,” said Dr. Steven Shapiro, UPMC chief medical and scientific officer. “One officer had his 3-month old son and the president spent a lot of time with the baby.

Melania and I were treated very nicely yesterday in Pittsburgh. The Office of the President was shown great respect on a very sad & solemn day. We were treated so warmly. Small protest was not seen by us, staged far away. The Fake News stories were just the opposite-Disgraceful! pic.twitter.com/9B9HgCF1G9
