A three-alarm fire at a Manhattan high-rise has left several people hospitalized Thursday night. The flames erupted from the third floor of the 26-story apartment building at 460 Grand Street, near Pitt Street – in Manhattan’s Lower East Side – and injured at least twenty people.
According to WNBC, the injured included 11 firefighters and 12 civilians. Two of the civilians were seriously injured, and one additional civilian was critically injured. According to a YWN reporter who was live on the scene, there was one person who was in cardiac arrest.
At least 3 firefighters were reported missing shortly after the FDNY’s arrival on the scene, although they were all accounted for shortly after. The FDNY stated that the members became disoriented in the thick black smoke, prompting them to transmit “MAYDAY”.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the marshals of the FDNY.
