Yes, anti-Semitism is growing, but we are Maminim bnei Maminim and we believe that its all coming from Hkb”h. We also know that Hkb”h operates with the principle of Middoh Kneged Middoh, so when He makes people hate us because that we don’t have the proper love and empathy for those other people (i.e. Non-Yidden).
Its the way we speak about them in a non-caring way, and our children hear and emulate us. Even when we do offer them help, we always connect it to Kiddush Hashem or Mishum Eivo, or, “if our doctors don’t save their lives, they might not treat our sick”. The you-tube clip of Rabbi Malach speaking at the RCCS dinner (see it at ‘Rabbi Malach RCCS’) the last 4 minutes is downright disgusting and filled with hate towards any Non-Yid.
I suspect it is not a coincidence that in the same year that the Haredi leadership in Britain are warning of the real possibility that Jews will have to leave Britain purely because of the problems of government forced anti Torah education, we now have the official leader of all Jews in Britain warning that Jews may have to leave simply because of antisemitism.
I was back in the U.K. for only three days recently and I experienced the most vile antagonistic antisemitism- more than in 18 years of growing up there……
These events may well be the catalyst to have all Jews gather in to Eretz Yisroel……..
Beautiful summarization, Rabbi Sacks. I’d agree with Ader’s sentiment, but turn in a different direction more in line with our mesorah. The Gentiles hate us because we aren’t living up to our side of the deal of being a mamleches cohanim vgoy kadosh. G-d chose us, and charged us to be an or lagoyim; the same way we are supposed to revere cohanim as they dedicate their lives to kdusha and perform avodah on our behalf, we are supposed to earn the reverence of the nations by teaching them by example, and perhaps even by outreach, the messages of the Almighty. The nations hate us somewhere deep down inside because we’re failing them. We go about our business relying on the Christians to spread the word of G-d’s Bible, mixed with lots of other “New” stuff. And we’re relying on the Muslims to spread monotheism with overtones of violence. And relying on Chabbad (not to put them mamesh into the same category) to do outreach, because “that’s not our way”, and “not quite my style”. Well why on Earth not? We’re all supposed to be overflowing with kdusha to share with the world, not to mention unaffiliated Jews.
while I agree with the beginning of the last comment, I’m not sure that the mida kneged mida applies here. We’ve been hated long before we had something negative to say about the non-jewish world.
as maminim bnei maminim we know that in the Torah it states clearly that if we don’t follow the Torah, then HaShem will unleash the nations upon us. It’s as clear as day. Anti-Semitism is nothing more than a tool HaShem is using to drive us back closer towards Him.
That’s why I cringe every time anti-semite is bandied about when explaining why non-jews treat us as they sometimes do. There’s enough evidence of frum yiddin working in the corporate world who behaved like princes and were treated with respect.
You want to stop Anti-Semitism? We need to come back to HaShem.
We were once witness to a historical Teshuva movement started by Mordechai in Shushan that had the power to overturn a Holocaust. We can do so again, we only need to choose Teshuva.
Beautifully said.
Remember, this was said to the House of Parliament, not as a drasha in shul on Shabbos.

As usual, Rabbi Sacks is spot on.
DR, this wasn’t said in Parliament, it was in the House of Lords. Jeremy Corbyn doesn’t have a peerage, and he doesn’t give a fig anyway. So some old Jew who shouldn’t even be in the UK made a few comments? Who cares? He is secure in his power.
The writing is on the wall. READ IT! Get out while you can, & I include my immediate & extended family. When Corbyn gets elected – and he will – draconian laws reminiscent of 1930’s Germany will be first on the agenda, starting with “little things” – banning schechita, Brit milah, closing ALL the Yeshivos. It’s inevitable.
hml, the House of Lords IS Parliament!
ader, your problem is not with “Rabbi Malach” or with this one or that one but with the Torah itself. The attitude you condemn is the Torah’s attitude. This is what we are required to believe, whether it appeals to you or not. We are not like the nations, and we are not supposed to love them. We are supposed to respect them and treat them decently and kindly, yes, but not more than that. The truth that the Torah teaches us is that we are not like them, we are a fundamentally different kind of creation, our mission on earth is not the same as theirs, and we are commanded to love each other, not others. Nor should we expect them to love us; all we have the right to expect from them is decency, and if we get that we should be satisfied.
