Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) threatened Thursday to release a confidential email from Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh “about racial profiling” at the start of the third day of confirmation hearings.
The senator said he would “knowingly violate” the rules and accept any punishment for his action, which he would consider to be civil disobedience. Booker said the email, taken from Kavanaugh’s time in the Bush White House, does not pose a threat to national security.
“I’m going to release the email about racial profiling,” Booker said at the start of the third day of Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings in the Senate Judiciary Committee. “I understand the penalty comes with potential ousting from the Senate.”
The New Jersey Democrat said he would “knowingly” violate the Senate rules to release the email. Other Democrats on the committee expressed their support for the effort.
Senator John Cornyn responded: “Running for president is no excuse for violating the rules of the Senate.” Cornyn added Booker’s behavior was “irresponsible and conduct unbecoming a senator.”
Booker called the process “a bit of a sham.”
Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, said more documents would be released Thursday and stood by his handling of Kavanaugh’s paper trail.
“My process was fair,” Grassley said as he opened the session.
After announcing plans to do so, Booker released 12 pages of emails — which had been marked “committee confidential” — online for the public to read. The emails included internal post-9/11 discussions surrounding issues of racial profiling.

Have any of these commenters read the emails? I did, they clearly show that Kavanaugh is speaking out of both sides of his mouth. Read the message before you castigate the messenger.
Republicans have been obstructing getting out records and info about kavanaugh, if he’s so terrific what are they hiding?
There was no great Republican outcry when the lying degenerate adulterer publicly announced the position of a fleet heading toward North Korea, or his discussing Comey’s firing in what was meant to be a secret meeting with the Russians, or meeting privately with Putin the thug murderer.
The same messenger who less than 1 hour after the President nominated Kavanaugh stated he wouldn’t vote to approve him. Why should he even be allowed to question him?
