YWN was considering posting some Purim news. We were unsure what to do – until we came across the following article taken directly from the Fox News website. It seems that they are either celebrating Purim today, or someone is playing with them.
Article:
Iranian youths staged a massive protest Wednesday, calling for Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s demise during the Persian celebration of Lag Ba’omer, United Press International reported.
Angry mobs shouted “Death to Ahmadinejad” while lighting bonfires in the city of Sanandaj, UPI reported. Bonfires and firecrackers are traditional in marking the occasion.
Police officers attempting to arrest the revelers were greeted with a barrage of firecrackers, but the situation never escalated beyond the typical celebration.

Ah freilichen Lag B’omer to all & hopefully we’ll be to see Achmewhateverhisnameis see the same end as Homan …..
that is one of the funniest things i have ever seen.
The folks at fox news are hardly the brightest bulbs in the box.
The Hebrew word “Peleg” stands for Purim – Lag B’omer. They both fall out on the same day of the week!!
Someone messed up somewhere.
Wow Lag Ba’omer for the Iranians im just Wondering if they sing “bar yochi” too…
well Next year will be thanking this Ahmadinejad guy, because if 2500 years ago we got a day of Purim because of haman im sure a year after his [Ahmadinejad] downfall we will get at least a 2 day Purim [meaning 6 days if its a meshulesh]….
Well wishing everyone a happy Chanuka [Purim-whatever]…
I’d like to wish everyone a Freilichin Shavuos.
“The last Wednesday of the Persian calendar is celebrated as the Fire Festival in Iran, with bonfires and firecrackers marking the occasion.”
Fox quoted this from UPI correctly, though someone fed them “Lag BaOmer” as the ethnic name, and, since it is an ethnic name of a different (lihavdil) holiday, one can’t really fault them too much when they’re at the mercy of whomever fed that name to them.
It is still kind of funny, though.
Good catch, #1.
wow it actually suits him!! good costume
