Last week, the column of Asher Medina was taken out of the weekly HaDerech Newspaper, which is the mouthpiece of Shas party chairman, Minister Aryeh Deri.
According to a report released by journalist Itai Gadassi via twitter, Medina left the newspaper against the backdrop of friction with the newspaper’s director Yosef Chaim Klaf. Klaf himself denied the report when approached by the Pitchifkes (פיצ’יפקעס) website and refused to comment.
However, it is important to remember that Gadassi is considered a close associate of the Shas movement and the editorial staff of the newspaper, and he has no motive to harm the newspaper or the editorial board.
Asher Medina, one of the editors of the newspaper HaDerech, announced his resignation from the newspaper following friction with the newspaper’s director Yosef Caim Klaf. His column did not appear.
Pitchifkes turned to the editor of the newspaper, Avraham Dov Greenbaum and Asher Medina for their response, which has not been received at the time this was published.
Deri and Shas used to control the weekly Yom L’Yom but the split off in the party and ousting of Eli Yishai as leader and his subsequent resignation, led to new realities. The same is true of the Kol Berama Radio station, which was once a favorite of Shas, and today on the black list for aligning with the Yishai camp.
This is true to the extent Rishon L’Tzion HaGaon HaRav Yitzchak Yosef, who is aligned with Shas, refuses to permit Kol Berama to broadcast his weekly motzei Shabbos shiur as the station did in the good old days. Now, he will only permit Kol Chai Radio to broadcast his weekly shiur.
