IT’S OVER! DISGRACED NYS GOVERNOR ELIOT SPITZER RESIGNS

new gov.jpgEliot Spitzer, the 54th governor of the state of New York, has just resigned. Spitzer made his announcement in a brief statement, he just delivered at 11:30AM EST from his Manhattan office. His decision follows his involvement in imoral, indecent behavior – as reported HERE on YWN.

As YWN had reported, he will be replaced by David A. Paterson – who was elected New York’s lieutenant governor on November 7, 2006. (His biography is posted below) The transition will take place effective March 17.

Eliot Spitzer was inaugurated as New York’s 54th Governor on January 1, 2007.

In his inaugural address, Governor Spitzer said: “Every policy, every action and every decision we make in this administration will further two overarching objectives: We must transform our government so that it is as ethical and wise as all of New York, and we must rebuild our economy so that it is ready to compete on the global stage in the next century.”

Prior to being elected Governor, Spitzer served for eight years as New York State Attorney General, where he won national recognition for landmark cases protecting investors, consumers, the environment and low-wage workers.

Before he ran for Attorney General, Governor Spitzer worked as an attorney in both the public and private sectors. From 1986-1992 he was an Assistant District Attorney in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, where he rose to the Chief of the Labor Racketeering Unit. He also worked for the New York City law firms of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison; Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom; and Constantine & Partners.

Biography of David A. Paterson:

Elected to represent Harlem in the New York State Senate in 1985, David Paterson has demanded and achieved change at every level, not simply by what he stands for but by who he is.

In 2002, David Paterson was elected minority leader of the New York State Senate, the first non-white legislative leader in New York’s history. In 2004 in Boston, he became the first visually impaired person to address a Democratic National Convention. And 2006 saw Mr. Paterson make history again by being elected New York’s first African-American lieutenant governor.

As New York State Senate minority leader, David Paterson led the charge on several crucial issues for New York’s future, proposing legislation for a $1 billion voter-approved stem cell research initiative, demanding a statewide alternative energy strategy, insisting on strong action to fight against domestic violence, and serving as the primary champion for minority- and women-owned businesses in New York. As a result, Governor Spitzer asked Mr. Paterson to continue to lead New York State on these issues as lieutenant governor.

Lt. Governor Paterson, who is legally blind, is also nationally recognized as a leading advocate for the visually and physically impaired. A graduate of Columbia University and Hofstra Law School, Mr. Paterson also currently serves as an adjunct professor at Columbia’s School for International and Public Affairs. David Paterson lives in Harlem with his wife, Michelle, and their two children, Ashley and Alex, and he is the son of Basil Paterson, the first non-white secretary of state of New York and the first African-American vice-chair of the national Democratic Party.

  1. Here’s wishing Mr. Paterson the best of luck. Good riddance to Spitzer (never liked him anyways- too full of himself and was much too liberal for me.)

  2. Well if you didn’t like Spitzer ‘cuz he was too liberal, then good luck with Paterson. He once proposed a bill to reduce Police violence. His proposal was that police in defense of themselves could only fire as many shots as the perps shoot at them. As though they should have an accountant along with them all the time to keep cheshbon.

  3. who would have imagined that a minority legally blind person would rise to the governorship of ny
musar haskel a reminder for all to see der eibeshter firt der velt

Take a good look at David Paterson.
While he’s probably not a sadistic megalomaniac like Spitzer, some of his policies appear far more liberal than your average politician.
David Paterson, once sponsored highly controversial legislation in the state Senate requiring police to shoot to harm, not kill.
David Paterson also pushed a bill that would have allowed non-citizen residents to vote in local elections.
In 2006, as a state senator, Paterson backed the bill to severely limit the use of deadly force by police against crime suspects who threaten them.
The idea drew howls of outrage from police and even opposition from Paterson’s running mate, Eliot Spitzer.
Overall, Paterson has chalked up a heavily liberal record during his more than two decades in state government.
Paterson supports Toeiva marriage, legalized abortion, embryonic stem cell research, and rent control. He opposes the death penalty.
The worse of the two evils?

  5. here we go again

#7 and all the rest of you who (worngfully) believe that this is L’H, you should not have opened the link and read the posts being as it is just as bad to read L’H as it is to speak it. Additionally, you need to consult a competent halchic authority to see if you are allowed to frequent a website that according to you, it contains L’H. (let us know what your Rav tells you, if you are allowed to come back here)

if it was L’H, YWEditor would not post it, if L’H does get posted by accident (or anyother inappropriate post) – send a private email to the editor though the “contact” section and if you are correct, he will act upon it.

  6. how could anyone think patterson would be better than spitzer
spitzer might have cruma shetos but at lest he had half a head
patterson spent his whole life taking advantage of affirmative action

  7. #11: He’s going to be another Mayor Stinky. He will raise our taxes, give the money to the illegals and diminish the state/city police forces. He will be a disaster. Mark my words.

  8. #7: Loshson Hara??? This guy was a mumar laarayos (zona), mumar l’yahadus (Goyteh)and it’s all over the airwaves…youre nuts!

  9. number 10 its 100% loshon hara not every thing has to be asked to a rav.

    Editors Note:

#1- We deleted your Nivul Peh,

#2- We asked a Rov. There is no Lashon Hara in this story.

  10. Hopefully this will bring an end to this sick story. There is enough shmutz here that wherever you go, all people are talking about is this scandal. Maybe now that he has resigned, things will quiet down!

  11. #21, charliehall
    OK.
Since Assemblyman Dov Hikind considers him as a close friend, I will sleep much better tonight.I will now not be afraid that Mr. Patterson wills to erode this sate of its’ moral holdings (whatever it may be). Mr. Patterson is someone to look up to. Thank you Dov!
    Sarcasms off.

  12. This observation has nothing to do with this story. Where is Joseph ? I have not heard from him in a while. Is he OK ? We used to hear his spin on countless topics but recently I have noticed his absence.

  13. “RAK BE-EYNECHA SABIT; VESHILOOMAS RESHOIM TIREH!”

Paterson is a Democrat, and, like most Democratic Party people, he is a radical opponent of traditional family values.–He preaches “Diversity,” and you know what disgusting things that stands for.

On the plus side, his failing eyesight probably makes him aware of his limitaions, so he will probably govern with humility, which means that, he might listen to reason and temper some of his more nutty Liberal ideas.

He has a good working relationship with the Jewish community.

    “LEV MELOCHIM BEYAD H'”

  14. All of you fine folk who are howling about how bad Paterson is, and that he supports immoral marriages, let remember one thing – there is a supposedly frum person who has a pretty high position in Albany (let’s call him Mr. gold) and this person supports every thing that is asur in the Torah. So before you rant how terrible it is that some Black guy from harlem supports certain behaviors that is the antithesis of what we stand for, perhaps you may politely tap Mr. Gold on the shoulder before you give him the kibud in Shul and remind him that he has an obligation to keep the Torah and NOT, Mr. Paterson…

  15. sb – based on your declaration of Loshon Hara in this thread and perhaps in other threads, I strongly suggest that you neither read nor post here again – according to you and your definition, you are openly violating halacha.

the rest of us, are fine as there is NO loshon hara here.

  16. Thank you ywn for taking the hgh road. Unlike some other frum news sites you did not relish is another yids downfall. Keep up the great work

  17. What a shame, he could have risen to be President of the USA.

If he only would have learned (and taken to heart)the wise words of Rebbi Eliezer Hakapor, who stated in “Avos Chapter 4”
הקנאה והתאוה והכבוד מוציאין את האדם מן העולם

  18. hey yeshiva world members.. if only we all showed so much interest in the killing of 8 YESHIVA students, we would be all right. And dont come back to me that learning shouldnt be stopped due to a funeral. The Belzer Reebbe got it right.

The rest of the “Yeshivas” are cluless

  19. how could town crier compare rudy to spitzer in americas society its normal to get divorced and heprobably would of rather rudy actlike the mayor of new orleans during extreme emergency

  20. #33 Baki,
No this is different one. The other would be about 2000 years old.

On a very serious note, the black community has a history of voting for the black candidate regardless of previous or pending convictions, Mayor Marion Barry and Congressman Alcee Hastings for example; and always rally to the side of black politian under fire, regardless of the facts, as in the case of Mayors Sharp James, Kwame Kilpatrick, L. Douglas Wilder, or Adam Clayton Powell IV. What the guy’s policies are, is immaterial. He was not elected on policy.

  21. maybe Joseph decided not to use internet anymore!! But its nice to know that the commenters of YW are like a family concerned for one another even though if we passed each other in the street, we wouldn’t know each other.

  22. To #7:
Loshon Hora only applies to “Amcho”, Not about someone who is not “Oiseh maiseh amcho”. Most of us will agree that what he did is not “maiseh amcho”. (hopefully)

  23. sb – I just received a cd from R M.M. Weiss. he devoted an entire shuir to mr. spitzer and haman harasha. go get the cd, listen to it and learn something!
